Autocad does not start with hardware acelleration

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am in an impossible loop:

Autocad does not start with hardware accelleration on. When I turn hardware acelleration off as a startup parameter it starts in safe mode.

In safe mode I can not turn off in the settings, so I am forced allways to run in safe mode.

Also I do not understand why acad does not support harware accelleration, befor i had Acad LT 2020 and it worked fine with my GTX 2020 Super.

I have the latest drivers of everything.

What can be wrong?

Why did you change the startup to /nohardware in the first place?
And why do you keep starting it if you don't want it to be there?

So, this might your problem.

If you want to start with acceleration on, why do you want to turn it off during startup? If you want it to start with it off and it won't start with it on, why are you turning it off in startup?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Have you tried this

Issue:
How to turn video hardware acceleration on or off in AutoCAD to improve graphics performance.
Causes:
Turning on hardware acceleration improves graphics performance and productivity. This helps overall performance, not just with 3D work.

If unexpected problems are appearing with specific video cards and drivers, toggle hardware acceleration on and off.
Solution:
There are several ways to toggle hardware acceleration in AutoCAD-based products. Try one of the following methods:
Enter the GRAPHICSCONFIG command and click the Hardware Configuration button.
Enter the 3DCONFIG command and click the Hardware Configuration button.
Enter the OPTIONS command or choose it from the Application menu to open the Options dialog box. On the System tab, click the Graphics Performance button. Then click the Hardware Acceleration button to turn it off or on.
Click the GRAPHICSCONFIG performance button in the lower-right corner of the AutoCAD application window.
User-added image
There may be a delay the first time using GRAPHICSCONFIG or 3DCONFIG or when clicking the performance button.

Note: The interface options may differ, depending on product and product version. AutoCAD LT 2011 and earlier do not support hardware acceleration and do not have 3DCONFIG.

Thank you for taking the effort to reply.

As I state in my question: acad crashes if I have hardware acceleration on, so I am forced to start with this startup parameter.

Thank you for your answer, but in safe mode these options are disabeled.

That is why I say that I am in an impossible loop.

...because acad does not start without the parameter. It crashes.

I have all the newest drivers, re-installed etc. etc.

Which version of graphic card drivers have you got installed,  are they ISV (Independent Software Vendor) - Studio type?

With NVIDIA GeForce this drivers are Studio drivers.

Then you do not ever get to turn on hardware acceleration in AutoCAD without first fixing the driver problem: "latest" drivers means nothing if it is not compatible.

See post #8 above and provide requested info please.

I have a Geforce RTX 2080 Super graphics card with the NVidia Geforce STUDIO driver version 456.38

My processor is an AMD Ryzen 3950X 16 core.

Plenty of RAM and disk space.

Weeks ago mt Autocad LT 2021 was working fine with hardware acceleration.

I wonder if there is some BIOS setting causing a problem.

@AnonymousI really don't know in that's the case.

At Nvidia latest Studio driver version  457.30 - Release Date: Tue Nov 17, 2020, and there was an update after

the one you have installed. Maybe just updating drivers could help.  If you didn't change graphics card settings it should be working without problems.

Studio drivers are not meant to be overclocked, and changing some parameters (my guess) may potentially cause troubles. Reset defaults would have to work in that case.

FWIW you have a 2021.1 update that needs to be installed, go get it now.
Then...
Read this and posts after it for things to try https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/safe-mode/m-p/6037691#M112492
Then read through this for other things to try https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/autocad-2016-safe-mode/td-p/5624337

Then if nothing helps you have three options:
1) Roll back to 2020
2) Get a new video card
3) Stay running as you do now in 2021.

sorry, but update 2020.1 does not exist for autocad.

buy another graphics card is an hilarious advice: my card is brand new, very common and high-end.

Thank you for your effort. I solved the problem otherwise.

I used the latest NVidia Geforce STUDIO driver version 456.38 with the assumption that "newer is better".

I uninstalled this and installed an older driver from 2019: version 431.70

Now Autocad works with hardware accelleration on.
