Autocad 32-bit files won't open on a 64-bit computer

I recently setup a new desktop that is 64 bit win7 os. His old computer was 32-bit. We have reinstalled his autocad but when we open the old drawing it won't open since they were saved as 32-bit. The only solution I have found from searching is the longbow converter but this costs about 300 dollars. I was hoping that someone might have a few suggestions.

Never heard of this. There is no difference in the data files created with x86 AutoCAD vs. x64 AutoCAD. What is the exact error message? Screenshots?

So did you install 32-bit AutoCAD on the Win7x64?
If so, what version?

If you google that file name ( Acismobj15.dbx ) there are a lot of results of people trying to run older x86 versions of AutoCAD on Win7x64.

He installed the 64 bit version of 2002.

I'm going to double check.

Pretty sure there was no x64 version of AutoCAD 2002, so if this is AutoCAD 2002, then this seems to be a common issue. You may be able to find a hack/workaround but you might want to consider obtaining a newer version of CAD software that will install and run on Win7x64.

Your client probably needs to pay these folks to get their old 32bit product to run old software on newer 64bit WIndows versions http://www.longbowsoftware.com
