AutoCAD 2024 drawing recover doesn't work

Hi.

i've just installed AutoCAD 2024. the 2 times that i have needed to recover a crashed drawing, neither has worked.

I get an "Unable to recover drawing file" message and AutoCAD created a ****recover.dwg file 4K KB from a drawing that is 225k KB.

Thanks for your response but the articles don't address particularly or at all that these are recovery files created by Autocad and the file created is  2% of the original size. This alone suggests to me that something is wrong.

Why did the recovery manager in previous issues list sv$ files rather than recover.dwg files?

Perhaps you need to install and use AutOCAD2023 (with the 2023.1.3 update) to confirm if the issue is your file(s) or the program? No one in our offices is suffering anything like that in the 2024s.

2023 no longer creates any usable recovery files either. It hasn't created a sv$ file, just a useless ***recover.dwg file that is 1% size of the original.

now 2023 (fully up to date) doesn't create any useful recovery files either. it hasn't created a sV$ file. it has only created the ****recover.dwg file that is 1% of its original size.

@robert.webster247M7 Your issue may be related with either bad template files or how/where you store and backup your files. So far your experiences seem to be rare.

@robert.webster247M7 thank you for posting, I am having a similar issue where the "...recover.dwg" is always 0KB and gets the "drawing file is not valid" error when trying to recover the file.

However, my autosave is working as expected and works in the Drawing Recovery Manager, just frustrating as I lose 10 minutes of work every time it crashes.

@CKVT01 ,

Will it allow you to  open the original file thru the Recover option, then do an Audit?

Thanks!  I had purged the dwg, didn't remember the audit command.  "Pass 2 21400 objects audited Total errors found 65 fixed 65" hopefully that fixes my issue with this particular dwg, but will report back if I still get "Unhandled Access Violation" and 0KB recover files.

(note: I am not marking the issue as resolved as I am not the original author)
