AutoCAD 2023 - Markup Import not available

Hello

I just installed AutoCAD 2023 and I've been looking on the new features.

MarkupImport command prompts the message "This feature is only available with an AutoCAD subscription, or may have been disabled by your administrator".

Well, I have a subscription and I'm the administrator. How can I activate this Markup feature?

Hi @MunteanStefan,

This might be indicating that AutoCAD does not have administrative permission on your system. One way to test this would be to run it as administrator:

  1. Right click on the AutoCAD shortcut icon on your desktop.
  2. Select Run as administrator.

If this resolves the issue, do the following to permanently set it to run as administrator:

  1. Right-click the shortcut for a program (or the EXE file directly) and choose Properties.
  2. Click the Compatibility tab.
  3. Select the checkbox "Run This Program as an administrator."
  4. Click OK.

Please let us know if this helps.

All the best,

Hi muntean_stefan,

Just confirming that is a standalone install?  Was it downloaded as a Trial or from the Accounts portal? Is it a named user account or network?  If it's a network license the CAD Administrator would have access to the features available to each user.  If it's a standalone install, that feature should automatically be turned on for subscription users.

I'm checking with the folks here to see if there's something going on with the feature entitlements.

Thanks,
Chris Miller

Confirmed I have the same problem. Regardless of starting as Admin or not, it throws up the error. Does the drawing need a Markup DWF inserted first?

All the best,

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, this is not it, I still get the same message.

@cmiller66

It is a standalone install and I have a subscription since 2017, renewed up to date.

Usually, I make the updates and upgrades from Autodesk Desktop App.

2023 however, is installed from my autodesk account, selecting "install now" option.

All installation process went well, no error, and the product is running normal, again no error, no registration or authentication messages, except this Markup thing.

It looks like there was an issue identified on the backend which has been corrected, but may take a bit to roll out for all users.  Sorry for the confusion and thank you for your patience.

Related items to a few other comments in the thread:
1. In the case of this message, "Administrator" refers to a CAD Admin, who can manage the features their users have access to via manage.autodesk.com.  Standalone subscription users should not have to do this, the feature should be enabled by default.

2. The new Markup Import and Markup Assist feature is not based on the old DWF/Markup.  This is a new feature where (color) markups made to a (monochrome/gray scale) pdf or printed hardcopy (which is then photographed or scanned) can be imported back into the parent drawing.  The imported markup is added to a trace, then you can switch to TRACEVIEW and see blue assist boxes for the markups. Click on them and AutoCAD objects (currently text, mleader, revcloud) based on the markups can be added to the parent drawing.

Hi everyone

Markups Import works. I tried today again and it works. Maybe it was just an authentication error, but it is frightening to know that some features might suddenly stop working because of a server error...

Umm, that's been a reality for decades now: first time using a web-connected software on your smart phone or PC?

No, but is first time in AutoCAD. At least I don't remember any command randomly not working.

Yes, I know, I've been around for quite some time. When people say "it's not working", usually means it's not working properly, or how they expect to work.

With these 2 addition, Markup and Trace, it's a different situation. You can turn them off or on from User Management. And some times, it might not work. And this is a thing I never encounter till now.

On a constructive side, I want to share my experience with the Markups

I usually send a pdf for review and get it back with annotations made in a pdf editor. Those are not imported with PDFATTACH or PDFIMPORT, but are visible with MarkupImport.

If you have multiple views/sections in ModelSpace, it is better to import the markups in PaperSpace, in the layout you plot the pdf from. The alignment was perfect.

I am having the same problem as the OP.

I am curious if the OP and other users of the Markup Import have a plain Civil 3D subscription or AEC (or similar collection that includes Civil 3D)

Our AEC subscription users have the Markup Import but our Civil 3D subscription users do not.

The best answer I can get from Autodesk support is that while it is available in AutoCAD 2023, it may not be available in Civil 3D 2023.

When I look at the available products for AEC it lists "Markup Import and Markup Assist" as an available product, but not for Civil 3D.
