I am having this same issue with AutoCAD 2018 student. Only way I can close the program is through task manager.

Any help would be appreciated.
Upon starting the app my home screen is all white and freezes.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community, and thank you for posting your question here in the AutoCAD forum.

There are several things that could cause this issue. If you can give me some info about your system environment, that would help narrow it down. You can attach an NFO file if that's easier than typing it all out.

Can you also make sure you are current with the latest updates for AutoCAD 2019?

Right mouse click on the AutoCAD 2018 shortcut, select Properties, add  /nohardware switch to the Target command line so that it now looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2018\acad.exe" /nohardware /product ACAD /language "en-US"

For AutoCAD 2019:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2019\acad.exe" /nohardware /product ACAD /language "en-US"

Glad this temporary solution is working for you. I have to do the same because there's some incompatibility between AutoCAD and a screen display driver I've installed.  So the /nohardware switch will start AutoCAD in what's called "safe mode" disabling hardware acceleration when AutoCAD starts.

Hello colleagues. Changing the string "nohardware"didn't help me. Is that still relevant?

"Do you have the program duet display?" No, not installed, how is this related to AutoCAD?

Well I started experiencing my issues after downloading duet display. Everything worked fine at first, autoCAD was the first program to start receiving issues, followed by steam, and eventually every program that required use of my graphics card was failing.

I didn't know what to do, I was very concerned. The "no hardware" was only a temporary fix for autoCAD. I till tried reinstalling and repairing autoCad to see if I can permanently fix it but nothing worked.

Eventually I came to the conclusion that it was a graphics card issue and reinstalled all my driver's, and even that wasn't the answer.

My last resort was to call my graphics cards (NIVIDEA (GTX 1050)) technical support. They basically ran me through a list of software that could be responsible for all the issues I was having (including autoCad) sure enough Duet Display clashes with my graphics card and causes tons of software to crash.

The fix was easy, I uninstalled duet and got a refund. I was then able to remove the "no hardware" function and every a returned to normal.

SO IN CONCLUSION, I WOULD CONTACT YOUR GRAPHICS CARD TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND SEE IF THEY CAN FIND WHAT SOFTWARE IS CAUSING YOU THIS LAG

Thank you!!!! This worked, don't know what cause the clash but everything was fine after uninstalling Duet display.

Quite a bummer as i liked Duet display for the extra screen(ipad) in my laptop bag.

I was having this issue with Revit 2019, Revit 2020, and AutoCAD 2020.  I realized I only got the white screen if I was connected to my company's VPN.  We use network licenses, so I have to be connected to pull a license.  If I disconnected, however, the activation window appeared (I just couldn't pull a license).

So, this was a quick, permanent solution:

  1. Disconnect from VPN.
  2. Start the Autodesk software.
  3. Click through the activation window
    1. For me, I got to the point where I said "I already have a license," and said it was a single use license server.  I put the server address as the name (not sure that's important).
  4. A window popped up asking whether I have a license file or a server.
  5. NOW, I connected to my VPN.
  6. I said server and again input our license server address.
  7. Voila, software works.  This is a one time procedure for each new software install.

Have you installed the 2023.1.1 or 2023.1.2 Update yet? ABOUT command will confirm what you have installed. If not, get the latest from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards.

If that did not help... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD/LT: reverting to DirectX11 fixes similar problems for most users.

Also consider turning off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING variables: if still no relief then start GRAPHICSCONFIG command and change the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, then turn off Hardware Acceleration as a last resort, the start a support ticket through your subscription portal as explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/support-options#:~....
