Autocad 2019 does not run smoothly on windows machine

Dear sir or madam,

I am a member of the I.T team of Eunice Energy Group in Greece. We use Autocad for major projects in our organization but unfortunately we face serious issues using it.

We need your assistance in order to get new infrastructure to support autocad for a descent running procedure.

At the moment we have a workstation with CPU RYZEN 5 3600, NVIDIA Quadro 3600 3Gb ram, 16Gb ram on motherboard, MSI Motherboard X570-A Pro and SSD Adata XPG SX8200 Pro.

Unfortunately, autocad does not have a proper synchronization with the mouse, while it works smoothly with any other application on it. It cracks and delays the moves. It does not crop, it does not execute basic commands such as:

  • Align
  • Xref
  • Insert images, pdfs etc
  • Crop & trim (when referring to contours, or roads etc)
  • Explode etc etc

The file size is up to 70Mbytes. Additionally to this, files such as jpegs and tables have been removed from dwg file.

Firstly do you think that the specs of our workstation are good enough to run autocad?

If not could you provide us a descent configuration of a branded machine in order to run your product smoothly without any interactions?

Best regards

Hi,

What I could see is that the graphic card mentioned by you is not listed in the certified graphics card list.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/certified-graphics-hardware

Which could be the problem why AutoCAD is not running smooth.

Hi,

>> it does not execute basic commands such as:

"It does not" means what? You get an error message? You get some feedback on the command-line? ...?

>> The file size is up to 70Mbytes

The size of the main file ... and how many XRef's are used, which size do these files have?

Also which type of geometry is used. 70MB just of block insertions could be a real big thing, 70MB of just lines and arcs is quite small for a graphic card. Any chance to get your drawing + a description of which action needs how much time on your system ... so we can compare.

Dear all,

Unfortunately none of the solutions provided solved my case. I attach a screenshot of a fatal error I get normally when I run autocad. The 70Mb of file I mentioned to my first message is about a file that includes maps (pdf) lines and polygons and total number of xref files equals to 6.

Could you provide any assistance please?

Best regards

Hi,

>> is about a file that includes maps (pdf)

Well, if the dwg-file itself has 70MB and you loaded additional XRefs/PDFs then I guess you are close to the limits of AutoCAD, graphic card or your system.

If the PDF's are vector files, then I would import them to dwg instead of referencing the PDF-files (referenced PDF's are really heavy for the display).

>> I attach a screenshot of a fatal error

When do you get this exception, while loading, while working, with some specific commands or only within this project?

Try to start AutoCAD and run command _RECOVERALL to see if your main DWG-file or the referenced ones contain issues.

So the problem is with one single PC and all other PCs with different hardware specifications do not have this issue?
Or do you only have the once single AutoCAD seat and no other computer to test on?

Just trying to understand what all you are actually testing and verifying before you posted.

Hello,

There is a machine with heavy duty usage of Autocad and some other ones on the domain that they do minor jobs. As it regards the heavy duty one I face all these issues and I want to see if there is a solution with a branded machine we can purchase in order to avoid all these issues with autocad. It is the first time in my career that I face all these issues with autocad. It is not normal for a program to open an empty project and get fatal errors.

If you only wish to spec a new/replacement branded PC that is geared towards AutoCAD, Dell offers that service https://www.dell.com/en-us/cp/chat-live-with-product-expert
