AutoCAD 2018 and Land Desktop 2006 Object Enablers

I received a drawing from a customer of our's who apparently is a little behind the times and uses Civil 2006 and Land Desktop 2006. I am running AutoCAD 2018. Needless to say, there were a lot of proxy graphics when I opened up the drawing.

I was able to install the Civil Object Enabler with no problems; the Land Desktop seems to be a different beast. Upon installing this, I get an error message saying that "Setup did not detect a valid version of Autodesk Object DBX on this machine" and "Installation ended prematurely because of an error" when I press OK.

What am I doing wrong? Is there something else I can install to alleviate the error messages? Will a newer version of the object enabler that I can use that will still work for 2006? There are some 900+ objects in the drawing that I can't see because of the issue and I cannot get any help from the customer's side of things as there are, like I said, I little behind the times and unfamiliar with anything less than 10 years old.

They don't work because 2006 works with Win98 and Xp those days.

Yes, I'm aware they don't work, that's why I asked for help and if anyone knew of a workaround besides finding a computer that runs Windows 98 or XP.

Why your customer not EXPORTTOAUTOCAD or AECTOACAD for you in plain Autocad is kind of ridiculous.

I can convert the drawing for you if you want to.

I appreciate the offer but unfortunately, there's all those confidentiality, NDA, blah, blah, blah... tied in. Smiley Frustrated

HI @Anonymous,

Can the sender of the files drop the proxy objects down to plain AutoCAD before sharing them with you? I believe they simply need to use AECTOAUTOCAD to convert the data.  Exporttoautocad was first available in 2007 product so I apologize if that command is not correct.

If that does not work, you would need to run AutoCAD 2006 with the LDT enablers installed in order to remove the proxy objects.

Can you share a file with me? I am happy to play with it to see if there is anything else that can be done. For instance if a bit of imprecision is OK you might plot to PDF and then use PDFIMPORT to bring the geometry back into your files.

LDT2006 died, err, was retired a very long time ago.

There is nothing you can add to R2018 to make those files ork flawlessly.

Ask your sender to "save as autocad" for you before sending them over is the only choice you have.

Good luck.
