Hi,

try to create a new PC3 file for that plotter (using command _PLOTTERMANGER ==> Add-a-Plotter wizard)

Hi Alfred,

Thank you for all your suggestions, I but tried all the work arounds for windows 10 to print with no success. The vista driver works for Windows 7. Our office will need to stick with Win. 7 or until our HP 1050c plotter needs to be replaced.

Your efforts are much appreciated!

Hi,

>> The vista driver works for Windows 7

Yes, but not for Windows 8, not for 8,1 and not for Windows 10 too. So the reason here is that HP didn't update the drivers for their devices (well 1050 is quite old, but I know that plotter is one of the hero's :cara_guiñando_un_ojo: ). It's not Autodesk's fault that HP do not update the drivers.

The question is also:

Is your printer connected to a server and all workstations use that server?
Then there is a driver available for Windows 2008 server, maybe this can help (which operating system does the server have)

...or...

does every workstation print directly to the plotter's IP address?

One good trial is to let the workstation search for drivers in the Internet. I had devices like that without drivers for the current operating system and when connecting the device I let the installer search the www for a driver and there are cases where that worked, even when I have not found a driver at the vendor's driver site.

I now create a new virtual system and see, if the 1050 will be available for Windows 10 with that trick, let's see (but will need time).

The most secure option (but maybe with limited features) is to create a new PC3, based in built in drivers from AutoCAD, e.g. from the DesignJet 750 and let it plot to the IP address of the plotter. It might have a bit different colors, when printing large format with raster files (like aereal images in GIS) the system might think it's not enough memory there, but in most cases that will work.

In case you have a test system on Windows 10 maybe you can install from >>>that HP site<<< one time the "HP Basic Driver", if that does not work, the "HP Full Featured Driver" and see if AutoCAD can use any of that drivers and there is a plotter sending HPGL/2 or HPRTL without plotter-specific codes.

Hi,

great info: run the workflow in Windows 10:

(first at all: sorry if my translation is not correct as I'm using German Windows 10)

  • Devices ==> Add Printer / Scanner
  • Windows searches for devices, you click onto the link below "my printer is not listed"
  • Next dialog: choose "local printer or network printer with manual settings
  • Next dialog: create a new port with your IP-settings
  • Next: you'll find a button for "Windows Update" ==> click it ... that may take now time (long time maybe)
  • For me the HP 1050C was then in the list of available drivers .... :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

2015-12-30 19-13-22.png

Test it and let is know the results, hopefully positive :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

Hi,

next message, this time bad news.

Using the driver above shows the effect you describe,

plot failed because of missing parameter

crash when going to custom properties of the printer

So the way I see is any of the HP (basic or full featured) drivers for Windows 10 and find a compatible device or to use the built in 750/755 which is working, but has limited features.

Sorry for my (own) wrong hope with the Windows-Update driver, - alfred -

Thanks again Alfred,

I'm very impressed with your trouble shooting and appreciate your time doing so.  Yes, the HP 1050c is a great workhorse, very reliable and no need to change (we do color coded sets of interior drawings).

The 1000 Printer Series HP-GL/2 Driver 4.91 7 Feb 2012.driver works for Win. 7 with AutoCAD 2016. I have to revert to Win. 7. and will hold off the whole office from upgrading to Win.10 (until HP creates a compatible driver).

Wishing you a Happy New Year!

Can Autodesk fix the printing problem? The driver works great when printing from Microsoft Word and other software in Windows 10. It doesn’t make since, I can print to the HP 1050c plotter with all the other software programs (Photos, Chrome, and etc.).

I received an Autodesk e-mail asking “Did it solve your problem”. No, I don’t see how AutoCAD is not the problem?

Autodesk doesn't fix drivers for HP or anyone else.

Is your driver installed on your PC, or the server? Which version driver? On my Win10 Laptop the HP1050c works just fine with R2016 and the driver I got Windows Driver Update to find for me (and not HP's website) similar to this old fix http://latitude-it.net/hp-designjet-plotter-drivers-and-windows-8/

Hi,

I have installed the driver from Windows Update as well, but don't get any option to plot without crash.

Can you provide a PC3 file for that driver and Windows 10? Maybe that can help.

Thx, - alfred -

No PC3 file, I use the system driver direct.

Hi,

>> I use the system driver direct

I tried that too, does not work. My hope was when I get a PC3 (and PMP if it has one created) that the "missing parameter" issue will not occur if I have fully defined the parameters.

Thx for responding!

Thank you Dean! I followed your link and created a new plotter in autocad based on the HP Designjet 750c.

1. Setup the HP designjet plotter by using windows update. DO NOT attempt to get drivers from HP or elsewhere, just go with the ones supplied in windows update. Use this driver to print from Acrobat or any other windows based application (other than Autocad of course!)

2. In Autocad go into options, and then plotter setup. Follow the wizard to create a new plotter in autocad based on the HP Designjet 750c, but as a destination select the IP for the plotter with a ‘problem’. See step by step images below starting from Options -> Plot & Publish

When in Autocad use the driver you created, when in windows use the system driver – simples!

hp800plotter LT2015

Once you have created this on one pc the PC3 file can be copied to other machines using windows explorer. The location it needs to be copied to is –
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD LT 2015\R20\enu\Plotters

Hi,

well, that was what I suggested as alternative in message 4 within this thread. But good to know it is working for you now as workaround.

Again the remembering: verify the colors, 750 and 1050 worked a bit different with the color palette, also the 750 had not that much memory built in, so large plots with raster images (aereal images) might fail because AutoCAD thinks the plotter has to few memory built in.

I would not start now tests with that, just keep that thoughts in the background and take it out from "storage" in case something fails. :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

Yes, the work around didn't work until I deleted it and rebooted the system. The colors are off and nesting is not working, probable due to memory like you mentioned. Thanks again for your time.

Much appreciated,

Hi,

Well, I guess you can activate that option directly on the plotter.

Our final solution to fix the printing issue is to purchase the HP DesignJet T830 Multifunction Printer

I love what I do and I do what I love...

Anonymous
No aplicable

I have just downloaded and installed a trial version of Acad 2017. I still have the same problem when trying to print to my Designjet 1055CM.

My printer works perfectly with any other program under Windows 10 - Only Autocad is crashing with the "parameter is incorrect" error. This applies to the 2015, 2016 and 2017 versions when installed under Windows 10. I have tried connecting the printer wirelessly through my WiFi router, through the JetDirect port and the parallel port, with no success.

My printer works fine on other machines in my office still running Windows 7 Professional. None of the cures, by-passes, PC3 files, etc proposed by other forum members have worked for me. Even the generic HP -GL drivers are of no use under Autocad.

So it appears that the promises made by Autodesk regarding Windows 10 compatibility, are empty promises. To continue using Autocad, i have no option but to uninstall WIndows 10 and go back to WIndows 7. I'm not about to spend thousands of dollars to replace an otherwise perfect, albeit older, printer.

In my opinion the problem is related directly to an imcompatibility issue with Autocad, and not Windows 10.

My system is a Core i7-4790K, Gigabyte MBD, WIndows 10 64 Bit, 16GB RAM, 4GB Nvidia GForce GTX970, 2 x 1TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD.

Starting with Win8 (with AutoCAD/LT) you've had to install either a Win7-driver locally on the PC that you get through Microsoft WIndows or use HP's Universal Printer driver to get it to work.
Here is the Win8 tip that might well apply to Win10 http://latitude-it.net/hp-designjet-plotter-drivers-and-windows-8/

There are more tips and coverage on this issue in the print-plot forum, go explore there too http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/printing-and-plotting/bd-p/30

Bump, I have same problem & found this thread - doesn't sound like this has been easily sorted?

I can print to my HP 1050 from adobe so currently printing from ACAD to PDF then printing from that to the printer successfully....not a perfect solution quality is not as good but a workaround
