AutoCAD 2016 Airplane Wing Watertight solid failure

I am a student in HS currently creating a drone in AutoCAD. I tried printing using Cura using an export to .stl file but I'm having several error messages occur, if anyone can help me with this I would be greatly appreciative

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

 

I tried to export your model to an STL file. In doing so, it was reported that of the 119 items I selected (your whole model) that 57 were filtered out.

 

The error I keep seeing is:

 

Modeling Operation Error:
Coincident face_face_ints with different body vertices.
The Boolean operation on solid and/or surface bodies failed.

 

So, if you can't write a clean file out you will not get it to print properly either.

 

Do you have this model saved in various pieces/parts before  you tried to Union them? Or, do we need to start exploding and rebuilding?

I actually have several forms of the project in different stages of explosion or grouping. I will post below.

I'm currently working on Copy4 and I believe I've singled out the problem. When using Union on the fuselage and wings I am given the same error message as posted above.

Hi @Anonymous,

 

I would suggest that you extend the wing into the body (fuselage) rather than just up to its face.  Let the Union take care of the excess.

 

Does this make sense?

 

Also, I select the left hand wing and it shows up as a 3D solid. The one on the right does not.

 

Also, Your propellers appear to be surfaces and not solids.

Welcome to the AutoCAD forum and thank you for joining us for Answer Day!

 

I've downloaded your model and am working with it now. It appears to be made up of 3D solids that may have been converted from a mesh or a series of surfaces at one point.

 

When trying to export to STL or trying to using the UNION command to combine the solids, I'm getting this error for some of the objects (but not all of them):

The Boolean operation on solid and/or surface bodies failed.

Modeling Operation Error:
Coincident face_face_ints with different body vertices.

 

This typically occurs when an object is too thin or tapered in certain places. I've narrowed it down to these areas:

You may need to modify these shapes (EXTRUDE or PRESSPULL might work) or replace them with a similar object that doesn't conflict with the model.

 

Once you repair these areas, you may have better luck exporting the STL for 3D printing.

 

I don't have Cura available to test, however Autodesk Print Studio seems to auto-repair a lot of the errors in the attached STL. I'm also attaching a modified version of your file that I modified as well as I could. It might provide a good starting point for you to repair the remaining sections of the 3D model.
