Autocad 2015 crashing when "Panning"

Autocad 2015 crashing when "Panning"

Anonymous
No aplicable

I have a new laptop running AutoCAD 2015.  Only 1 file seems to crash which is not a very large file (15MB).

When I'm zoomed out and I "pan" around the drawing the cursor stalls and it stops and crashes.  I've tried re-installing video drivers and removing excess block sizes.  Nothing seems to work.  It doesn't seem to crash when I am zoomed in close and pan.

Hi @Anonymous,

Does this problem occur if you turn off Hardware Acceleration (GRAPHICSCONFIG)?

You might also AUDIT the drawing file to see if there are errors in the data that might be causing this problem.

Hi John,

Yes the Graphics config acceleration is off and I've ran the audit option several times and found no errors.

The drawing might have blocks or stuff inserted form other software packages.  (3rd party)

HI @Anonymous,

Thanks for the confirmation. Can you share the file? If not publicly I can give you a way to share privately with me.

John,

Privately I can probably share it with you.  It's a drawing of one of our manufacturing sites.

HI @Anonymous,

Thanks for sending me the file. I found nothing unusual with your file and it behaves properly when I pan. So, let's eliminate that part from this issue.

What kind of mouse are you using on your system? You indicated that you hold down the scroll wheel to PAN when this is occurring.

Please also tell me, your OS, AutoCAD version, Graphics card make and model.  This behavior sounds like it is likely a driver issue.  Do you have the opportunity to send in a crash report when this happens? If so, do you have the CER number or is it filed under your email address?

HI @Anonymous,

I took the contents of your file and pasted them into a clean and empty drawing.  You replied to let me know that this file does not show the crash when panning behavior any longer. I am glad the fix was this simple.
