Attached image lost when reopening the dwg file

I have a dwg file with an image attached to it. When i close and reopen the dwg file, the image is lost and what is left is an image border w/ its directory location. I know that when you move the image file itself to another directory and reopen the dwg file then it will be the time that only image border and location directory appears. But its not the case for me because i havent move nor modify the image file itself. So my question is, what is causing this? Help me please.

What kind of pathing are you using?

Was the referencing file saved or moved to a new location?

Hi @Anonymous,

Embedded images can be problematic.

Paste Special is the command you want to explore and see which options work best for you. When you embed the image it essentially becomes an OLE type object and if the path changes in any way or is not accessible then you see this kind of problem.

My preferred method is to use an IMAGEATTACH where you have more control over the path.

OLEs are troublesome at best and, IMHO, should be avoided unless all other options have been discounted.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am checking back to see if my post or others helped you with your problem.
Please add a post with how you decide to proceed and your results so other Community members may benefit.

Some members report success in embedding the image in a drawing and using it as a block.Insert that drawing into your current one and see if the image stays put.

Hi I don't know  if anyone still needs this but I found a solution to this, just make sure that the location of the image you pasted in the dwg file wasn't removed or moved.

1.  Click the border of the missing image and go to the ribbon tab

2. Click external references and choose the image you want retrieve.

3.  Right click on that file and Reload and that should do the job!

Good luck! :cara_con_una_leve_sonrisa:

Click external references.Click external references. This shows your attached files/ images and you can hover to the file to see a preview of what it is if you're not sure which one. Then you can right click on the file and click reload, this worked for me just fine! This shows your attached files/ images and you can hover to the file to see a preview of what it is if you're not sure which one.
