Associating a SHX file to a DWG file

I received a SHX file that has the same name as the DWG file.  I also recieved a PDF file of this drawing.  I am assuming, (I know I should not assume), that the SHX file is associated with the DWG file.  I have loaded the SHX file in my C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2013\Fonts folder.  When I open up the file I am not seeing the same font type in the DWG file with what I received in a PDF file printout of the drawing.  Does the SHX file get associated to the DWG in some other way?

The DWG file I received does say that it was saved by an application that was not developed or licensed by Autodesk.  Could this have something to do with the SHX file not associating to the DWG file?

Thanks

You may need to put the font in the: C:\Windows\Fonts   folder. When you copy it to this folder, if not already there, it will "Install" itself !

Hope this helps !

SHX files can be font files, or shape files: ask your source of the files for a clarification, and what program their were using (and inquire about the font you see in the PDF).

Is the SHX file supposed to be a FONT or a SHAPE file?
They share file extensions, but are different types of files.

If it is a font SHX file, as long as the font can be found by AutoCAD, then it will be used when needed. But you need to check the properties of the text entities to make sure they are still pointed to the same font that you have.

IOW - the DWG file could have been altered in between the time the PDF was made and when you received it.

The non-Autodesk thing should not be causing any issues.

None of the above statement is correct.

Not sure why you say the statement is not correct.

Just tried it..........download a font..........copy it to the C:\Windows\Fonts  folder.....Windows says "Installing Font"

AutoCAD sees the additional font.

Works fine here

Done it this way for over 10 years !

Just thought it may help the op with his situation.

Now if indeed it is a shape file....then no this will not work

Maybe that is new for Windows 8/8.1?  If so, I stand corrected and offer my apologies.

However, Windows 7 and earlier have never recognized SHX fonts as "fonts". AutoCAD also does not read SHX files from the C:\Windows\Fonts directory, unless you happen to add this path manually to the Support File Seach Path.
