when I check the area in property panel, the unit shows up as square feet as default. How could I change the unit to acre? or display both square ft and acre at the same time? thx

There is no default "acre" option in AutoCAD: you will need to customize with LISP or explore this method with using a FIELD https://cadprotips.com/2015/03/15/use-fields-to-automatically-calculate-acres-in-autocad/

There are certainly routines out there for the Searching, for calculating and/or labeling  things in acres -- >here< is another example.

In order for it to show areas in acres  by default, such as in the Properties palette's Area slot, since that reports in square drawing units, the drawing unit  would need to represent 208.71 feet [the square root of 43,560 SF].  The only thing built in  that reports in more than one unit format is when in Architectural Imperial units, in which case it displays Area in square inches and square feet.  You could put in a request to add acres as an optional display setting [which someone may very likely already have done].
