Hi! This is AutoDesk and we'd like to shove our new features down your throat, hope you're hungry!
***you are correct*** this feature may be useful, but there is no reason to set it AS A DEFAULT and also constantly change every tool, reset ridiculous system settings so things break (hatch won't show up: HPMAXLINES doesn't equal 1000000) and make it a mystery on how to change it back to the way you were used to seeing it, so that you may actually get some work done today.
Then, the mods on the forum make you feel like the dumb one when you can't figure out what is not working without an hour of internet research, and you find others that had the same frustrating experience graciously write up a tutorial helping you get AutoCAD back to "classic" .
Need to appease the shareholders that AutoCAD is progressing, and convince your bossman that pays for it that you NEEED to buy the latest shiny new version. The way to do that is to remove the perpetual licensing and require a subscription, so you don't actually own it anymore... which is exactly what they did!
Most architects do not need any new feature that came out in the past 5-7 (or even more) versions, including the ribbon. It just takes up unnecessary space on my screen. We just simply need AutoCAD updated by AutoDesk to work smoothly with the latest versions of Windows... We know it, and they know it, but there's not much anyone can do.
Add it to the "wish list" I guess. LIKE this comment if you want AutoDesk to quit these behaviors.
If things won't show transparency when you plot, set PLOTTRANSPARENCYOVERRIDE = 2
If your hatches won't show on large areas when plotted, but show on your screen, set HPMAXLINES = 10000000
If you can't set a text string without "Dynamic Columns" being the default and showing 2 columns of text, set MTEXTCOLUMN = 0
