Some of our users were crashing AutoCAD by typing 0,0 into the command prompt. (The reason they typed in 0,0 was that they were using the insert command and thought they needed to type in the insertion point, but that's really not relevant to this issue).
It appears that real reason it was crashing was because AutoCAD was searching for a command that has a 0 in its name, i.e.HIDEBIM360.
When we typed in HIDEBIM360 into the command prompt, we get a fatal error using our customized AutoCAD. OOTB, all we got was nothing when typing HIDEBIM360. It appears that HIDEBIM360 came into effect since AutoCAD 2015. No idea what it is supposed to do.
We did a search for HIDEBIM360 and found we weren't the only one with the issue.

Hi,
with AutoCAD 2017.1.1 (N.301.0.0) I don't get a crash when starting _HIDEBIM360, do you have installed the latest update(s)? (command _ABOUT)

Hi,
ok, when your AutoCAD has the latest service packs installed and your AutoCAD crashes while my don't crash (when starting command _HIDEBIM360) then it either depends on the drawing you have open (try it with a new drawing) or with your loaded tools (half of the icons are not know to me ...this makes me thinking you do have some tools installed) or maybe your AutoCAD profile is defect.
Does the same happen when you login with a new Windows user account, then start AutoCAD with a new drawing, create just one line (don't install your tools) and start command _HIDEBIM360 ... what happens?
Can you please post a screenshot of the dialog _ABOUT?

Hi @ajohnson,
I have seen the old threads on this too but have never been able to duplicate it. There is no documentation that I have found on the command and I suspect that it was put it in product but never implemented (what ever it was supposed to do).
I suggest taking a close look at your drawings or template files to make sure that they are clean:
You are welcome to attach some sample drawings here.

Hi,

Can you then please answer the open questions?

When we typed in HIDEBIM360 into the command prompt, we get a fatal error using our customized AutoCAD. OOTB, all we got was nothing when typing HIDEBIM360.
The crash occurs in both versions 2017.1 and 20171.1.
Can you explain why the custom dictionary variable command appears in the above screen shot when executing the HIDEBIM360 command?
It is correctly set to our custom dictionary, but none of our customizations should be changing it.

What is the difference between OOTB (you don't get a crash) and now, when your AutoCAD crashes? Any tools installed or what is it that makes the difference?

Which screenshot? I don't see a screenshot and in the video I don't see the anything about custom dictionary variables...

I'm a bit irritating, are you having tools which create a dictionary or how is the dependence between your dictionary and the command HIDEBIM360 and the crash?

The custom dictionary event is in the screencast, not screenshot. It's in the settings track along the bottom, the one with the gear icon.

Nothing we have should be trying to modify the custom dictionary. I suspect that may be part of the problem with the HIDEBIM360 issue, but since I don't know what the command actually does (and no one else either?), I can't trace it any better.
We have 28 years of customization and I'm not wading through all that to trap the cause.
The best technique is to UNDEFINE the commands, but I was curious whether this is a more widespread issue.
(defun s::startup (/ a c)
(command "undefine" "hidebim360" "undefine" "showbim360" "undefine" "onlineautocad360")
....
)

I have looked now 5 times to the video (in the initial post), I don't see anything about dictionaries. Even the icon in the status bar that looks like a gear is the workspace icon, has nothing to do with dictionaries ... can you show a screenshot with a marker what detail in the video I'm not finding?

I don't see this critical, just needed to save the info for future times when the commands may be needed.

Hi,
Sorry, I fully misunderstood that, with "dictionary" I always looked for AutoCAD dictionaries available for development (additional info'a that you can attach to AutoCAD objects from applications ... as you wrote that you have a customized AutoCAD environment), I never thought about the spelling dictionary, again sorry, my fault.
Anyway, the position that file is accessed is while/after you entered "0,0" ... that means the dictionary is used for looking for spelling issues/to find a corrected word for a command or option that can be used instead of a command. I'm not sure that this is the source of the conflict/crashing.
If your solution with disabling the commands is ok for your, please let me know that.
If you want to continue, then my next question would be again, what exactly is the difference between default AutoCAD profile and the profile you have with your customization (as in the first environment AutoCAD does not crash while the customization did/does something that makes the bim-command crashing).

I just finished talking with a technician with AutoDesk and he said that this is a known issue (TFS:150720), but they aren't able to duplicate it as yet.
He said that the Undefine method is an acceptable solution to disable the commands.
His other suggestion was to unload the BIM360.cuix menu using the CUI interface and to also rename it in the C:\Users\<NAME>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017\R21.0\enu\support path so that it doesn't have the opportunity to even load up.
Thx for feedback! - alfred -
