Annotative text default

I have an issue with all blocks defaulting to annotative text when I place them in a drawing. 

If I hover over the block in the palette, it tells me that the block is not annotative then when it's placed in the drawing it is annotative so I have to manually turn it off in every block as I place them.

Is there a setting I can change to avoid this problem?

Since you didn't post a file to look at and investigate, guessing at the issue is the only option. 

My best guess is that the file into which you are placing the blocks already had a pre-existing block definition of the same name, and that pre-existing block definition is annotative.  Obviously, with that being the case, any new block insertions have that pre-existing annotative definition.  If my guess is correct, then the simple solution is to edit or redefine the block definition in the file and then all insertions (old or new) will take on the new definition.

A quick reminder, anything with the same name that is already in the destination file replaces that same object from outside: this include DIMSTYLE, text STYLE (which control attributes too), BLOCKs and so much more. That's how AutoCAD works, always has.

Your destination file is set up the way you do NOT want, you'll need to fix it inside the destination file.

The problem is in all files and with all block whether they're copied in from another file or created new within the file. I've attached a file with which I'm currently having this problem

None of the blocks inserted into that file are annotative.  The only block definition in that file that is annotative is a north arrow block.  I copied all of the existing block insertions and as I would have predicted, none of the copies of the non-annotative blocks became annotative.  I inserted several of new insertions of various existing block definitions in the file and as predicted, none of those were annotative either. 

You should give details on what blocks you are inserting and what your process is for inserting them.  It may be easiest to make and post a video.

I looked at the file a bit more.  The issue is that all of the attributes in all of the blocks are made with the Annotative text style and are all set to annotative.  

If you don't want annotative attributes then don't make them annotative.  Change all of the existing block definitions so that the attributes are not annotative.  After that, any existing or new insertions will not have annotative attributes.

@Steve_Corner "...None of the blocks inserted into that file are annotative..." but you sure do have lots of annotative text styles defined in that exported-from-Inventor DWG file

Thanks for that. I'll change the text styles in the blocks.

It wasn't exported from Inventor, I do use Inventor a lot but I exported this out of Autocad. I'd never use Inventor for anything which is purely 2d. Could something in the template have originated in Inventor?
