Annotation Layers?

Annotation Layers?

At my last job, they had a drop down list in the Annotation ribbon tab, and whichever annotation scale was selected in MODEL space, the dimension style, leader sizes/text, and a couple other things would switch to that scale. This was in AutoCAD LT 2016.

I'm at a new job now, and I've undertaking the task of updating their processes and setting up AutoCAD to be more efficient. I have searched for weeks and cannot figure out how to set that up for the life of me. I have my dimension style all set up, but can't figure out how to make it a quick and easy switch for everything like they had it set up. We use AutoCAD Mechanical 2016 here.

Im not sure i follow, but ill take a guess any way.

One way to handle things like that is to set up your SCALELISTEDIT in a template that way your scales are already set and all you have to do is assign you scales to the objects.

I'm not sure if it was just the standard drawing annotation scale that was changing, or if they had something different set up.

It was set up so we could pick 1/2"=1'0" and it loaded up a specific dimension style, and the leaders would automatically come in at the correct size. Then we could switch it to 1-1/2"=1'0" and it would change it to that specific dimension style and leader size. Everything would then come out on paper space the same size.

If it can be done in LT it can be done with full version and vertical autocad.

You have to setup all of that by using annotative for:

Text, Dimension, Hatch etc......

@Patchy could you point me in the direction of something to teach me how to do that?

If you add the scales to the respective elements it will behave this way though it wont change styles for you...

here is a deception for an AU talk from 2008 http://www.dscohn.com/AU/handouts/GD315-1P%20Annotation%20Scaling-DOC.pdf

It would be interesting to have a feature that changed all the styles based on the scale.

I think I have figured it out. I was overthinking it, I believe. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to add the Dimension Style DropDown List into my ribbon

Im not sure what ribbon panels are available in mechanical. Have you looked in the different workspace to see if what you need is there?

If its not in any of the workspaces,  you may be able to see if you can export the tab or panels from some one else running vanilla cad and  import into your mechanical tabs.

HI @Anonymous,

It sounds like you will soon be an Annotative wizard in AutoCAD!

If you go to the Annotate ribbon and the panel for Dimensions, ther is a down-arrow next to the current dimstyle being used.If you drop it down you will see the dimstyle manager.

Changing styles is not necessary with annotative scaling. This is the beauty of it. One style covers all scales. No more need for multiple styles, just for different scales. The only reason you would need additional styles is, if you wanted a different appearance.
