Anchor Model tab so it's always visible?

Our catalog of home plans each has anywhere from 15-25 layout tabs. When in a "higher" (further to the right) tab, the Model tab "disappears" because there's simply not enough space to show all of the tabs. I have noticed in 2018 that the Model tab stays anchored as the furthest "left" tab. Is there a setting in 2015 that controls how the Model tab is viewed/displayed?

Hi,

i suggest to right-click on any layout tab and select Dock above Status Bar. This will expand the display of layout tabs across the whole screen.

That will work for most of our plans, but I'm still curious to know if there's a way to anchor the Model tab so it's always visible. Perhaps that's a new feature in 2018...

Model tab supposed to be fixed and always shown !! for that and as a try i suggest to install the latest service pack for your version.

Hi @peterjwinberg,

The Model Tab should always remain visible.  I suggest checking for all hotfixes and service packs from here. Then, perhaps also try a Reset Settings to Default to see if the issue goes away.

On another note, I suggest you break your drawing up. I don't like placing everything into one drawing because if some corruption occurs you will likely lose everything. I find it a much better practice to create separate drawings for what you now have in each layout and then XREF in your base drawing.

You can also use the system variable TILEMODE to quickly go to the Model, you must type TI and press 1 to go to the Model, and 0 for the Layout,

Thanks for pointing that out. I always thought it was normal behavior for AutoCAD to hide the model tab when you had too many layout tabs and not enough space on status bar. I got around by clicking the 2 little triangle drop down button and selecting Model. It has been quite annoying though and I hope it is fixed in 2018 as OP has mentioned. I am still on 2015 and so I am hoping I can find the right fix/patch.

I wish I could test this personally but I no longer have AutoCAD 2015 installed on my computer.

Is it possible for you to download and install a Trial of AutoCAD 2018 on your computer to see if behaves properly?

Just to verify. I have 2017 and my model tab is always showing. I just tried to move it to a place besides all the way on the left. It's pretty hard to get it to grab on the mouse pointer, but once I do get it to grab, as soon as I place it between two other tabs it goes right back to the left.

Thanks for the confirmation. I tested on my AutoCAD 2016-2018 and it seems to behave on all three versions. I don't recall ever having the problem in 2015 but I don't typically have that many layouts that would cause the issue to appear.

I toggled a bit, but it didn't do anything.

I don't want to reset to default - in the middle of too many projects to spend time problem solving this issue (it's not a big enough problem to spend time on right now).

I was hoping there was a quick fix, but since there's not I will just have to come back around to it when the time comes.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sadly, I haven't found other cases similar to this in the support database so I don't have another workaround or fix.

Just tested in 2015 base install with all the latest patches.  The model tab will migrate off the page if you select tabs beyond the last visible tab.  The behavior appears to be "normal" for 2015.

That said, it took 13 layouts to push the model tab "over the edge", We never place that many layouts in one file, way too many eggs in one basket, one corrupt file would kill a dozen drawings.
