Align viewport(s)

Hello everyone!

Is it possible to make a rectangle (frame) in model space and transform it to viewport? I'm working on a multi-storey building and floors are on top of each other. I use one viewport for each floor but the panning method (to get the plan in the right place) is not the best. It's not precise. I want that all my floor plans are in the exact same place on paper once they are printed. I use Autocad 2013.

Strictly speaking CHSPACE (Change Space) command will push a modelspace rectangle into Paperspace where you can then convert it into a Viewport with MVIEW > Object,  however perhaps a better solution would be to use ALIGNSPACE command to align a reference rectangle in Modelspace to a Viewport.

A 3rd options is to save a View, so you can always return to the same "view" when switching between or creating new layouts/viewports.

I know this is an old question, but this is how I do it in Autocad LT (ALIGNSPACE not available):

1. Draw a rectangle on a non-plotting layer sized to correspond exactly with the viewport borders.

2. Unlock the viewport and zoom out until the rectangle is visible.

3. View -> Zoom -> Object, select the rectangle and hit Enter. Autocad centers the rectangle and zooms in but leaves it just shy of the required scale.

4. Change the viewport scale to the exact scale required and then lock the viewport.
