Align circles as good as possible

Align circles as good as possible

Hello,

I have two datasets of the same objects, both meausered with a different technique. The datasets are drawn as different circles. Each circle has a correspondig circle (meausered with the second technique), but not with the exactly same position or radius (approximate the same).

I search for a funciton or method to align both datasets as good as possible, however the standard 'align-function' doesn't satisfy. I'm more looking for a function like the registration function when you are working with pointclouds (best alignment of two clouds), but in this case I'm working with circles instead of points. I need to fit the complete dataset of technique one (black cirlces) to the complete dataset of technique two (red circles) as good as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

>> I'm more looking for a function like the registration function

I would not know of a way to do that automatically.

In case you do you have Map3D or Civil3D available, there you can find command _ADERSHEET where you can define pairs of points (source position / destination position) and then a module for affinity transformation is doing the job.

Can you give us some background info's about this workflow? Where do the data come from, which type of objects stand these circles for and what will be done after the transformation (and which accuracy is needed)? Maybe that can bring up some additional ideas.

Hello,

First of all thanks for your idea, i'll try it later this day in Civil 3D.

De circles represent the diameters of trees (stem diameter at 1.30 m). Firstly measured with static laserscanning, and secondly, to compare a second technique, with mobile mapping. This last is not absoluted oriented, so I need a best fit with the controldata of the static laserscanning. Afterwards I will check the accuracy in position of the mobile mapping technique.

Regards.
