After I save I can't move text/dimensions

Hello, I've been searching for a solution to this problem but I can't find anything.  I have a drawing that I am working on, and when I save it the text becomes uneditable, and the dimensions wont move when I select them.  In order to fix it, I use the audit command, and that causes all the arrows on my leaders to unattach from the text.  I've tried other files, and they work fine, but if I copy and paste my drawing into the working file, it starts doing it again.  I've attached a portion from the file and I am having the problem in it.  If you open it, save it and then try to move the drawing.  I appreciate any help, oh and I'm using autocad 2018

Hi,

>> I'm using autocad 2018

Are you using Vanilla AutoCAD or AdvanceSteel? I'm asking that because when opening your drawing I get the message that proxies from AdvanceSteel exist in the drawing.

>> when I save it the text becomes uneditable

What happens when you double click the text?

>> the dimensions wont move when I select them

Can you please describe that more detailed? A dimension would not (should not) move when I select it...

Hi @alangerhans,

Take a look at this file and let me know if it behaves any differently.  I ran AUDIT, PURGE, and -PURGE>Regapps. I then copy/pasted into a new file.

I have advancedsteel installed, but I'm not using it, although the original file that drawing came from might have had the templates designed in advanced steel, I'm not sure though, my boss made them.

When I double click on the text I get an internal error message.

If I select the drawing and try to move it somewhere else, the lines and hatches and such will move to where I want them, but all the text, leaders, and dimensions stay in the same location.

If I audit the drawing it will work fine until the next time I save, but all the arrows on my leaders become unattached and I have to use the annotation attachment express tool to reattach them, which gets pretty annoying because there is a lot of them.

John, no that file still has the same problem

Hi @alangerhans,

Interesting that I don't see the error. I see however that your dimstyle uses a textstyle using a font that I don't have on my system. If you change the textstyle does it still cause the error?

Hi,

>> When I double click on the text I get an internal error message.

Please show a screenshot from that message.

Another info that might help: start command _ABOUT and show us the screenshot from that dialog.

I also don't see crashes...

It seems to happen no matter what font I am using, I'm not at my desk right now, so I'll try to get the screen shots for you tomorrow.  One thing I did think of though is that this is the first drawing I've worked on since my company changed our license.  I had to install a different version of Autocad 2018 and I added advanced steel.  Drawings that I made prior to that don't seem to have this issue

Why do you set your files in R2018 to save all the way back to 2004DWG file format?
Does your problem go away if you stopped doing that? Test and find out.

Imad, I'm still having the same problem with that file

Dean, I have to save it that far back because some of our project managers or sub contractors dont have the latest versions of autocad, so to prevent any issues we have to save back to 2004, but the problem is still there if i save as a newer version.

This problem first showed up when I had to switch to the autosuite version of 2018, files I created on the stand alone version dont have this issue, unless I paste something from this file into it.  i'm not very familiar with all the different versions of autocad, I just know that it was cheaper for my company to have an autosuite license instead of just autocad, so I had to install a different version of 2018, and I added advanced steel.  I'm working on the screenshots but unfortunately, this issue is starting to cause me to fall behind on deadlines so I cant really devote a lot of time to fixing it right now.  I appreciate any help anyone can provide

Never ever use an older dwg version as your default file format. Especially with 2018 you'll get troubles.

When others can't open your file then they can install Autodesk True View (free) and so they can open your 2018 files and save them back if they want to. But your current project working file should never run that save-back and then repair process.

>> but the problem is still there if i save as a newer version.

To test this did you really create a new project starting based on an original 2018 template and that was never saved back to an older format?

Or did you start a project based on an old template or did you use a drawing that already was saved back to an old dwg-format and now you saved it at 2018? ... because that is not the clean working situation.

Well, then you might have installed object enabler, and other add in's that don't exist in the plain (Vanilla) AutoCAD. If you are really sure that it depends on that, then run a clean uninstall process and only install AutoCAD itself, you can enter the serial and product key from your suite when installing it.

No problem for us, but I would not like to work with the risk of damaging my data ... and so losing much more time!

(it's like driving with a car knowing the wheels are on their live end ... would you like to drive that car because you don't have time to change the wheels?)

Alright, sorry I kind of disappeared there, work was hectic.  Anyway, I figured out that the problem was caused by the option to add scales to annotative objects when the scale changed.  I unselected that and everything works fine now.  Thanks everyone for your help
