Adding line types

Adding line types

I'm trying to create other line types in the PC desktop version of 2015 and am having zero luck.  I tried this suggestion I found on the forum:

Do a search for the ACAD.LIN file and add the following to it. (it should be
down deep in your documents and settings folder)

*FENCE,Fence Line ----X----X----X----
A,.5,-.2,["X",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.2

It didn't work.  I had to change file permissions on the file when I opened it in Notepad after which the file finally saved but the line type is not there when I go to load a new line type.  Just all the usual suspects.  I tried quitting AutoCAD and reloading it; no new line types.

I tried this as well:

*FENCELINE3,Fenceline X ----X-----X----X-----X----X---
A,.25,-.1,[FENCEPOST,ltypeshp.shx,s=.1],-.1,1

This goes in ltypeshp.shp.

No go.  My only option was to open that in Notepad though.

Any suggestions?  I need to create others such as "sewer," "elec," etc. and just cannot seem to get it to work.

Hi,

>> It didn't work.

What have you exactly done? Because a linetype, even if it's created in the ACAD.LIN or ACADISO.LIN .. it has to be loaded.

So what were your steps and which step did not work, what happend and what did you expect instead?

>> I had to change file permissions on the file

Please show us the path of the file you have modified.

>> This goes in ltypeshp.shp.

Linetypes are not created inside of SHP files.

I copied and pasted the fence line type text from a "solved" forum post,
pasted it into the "user defined" section at the end of the acad.lin file
using Notepad, hit save. It kept telling me I didn't have permission to
edit the file until I changed permissions.

I then quit AutoCAD, reloaded the program, opened a file I was working on,
went to the line types drop down, selected "other" and hit "load." The new
line type was not there which is where it should be.

I've attached screenshots. As I am replying via email, let me know if the
screenshots do not come through.

I expected the new line type fence with an x in the line but it was not
there in "load" where it shows acad.lin as the file it's pulling from.

In case the images don't show up in this response, the acad.lin file came
up in a search under AutoCAD2015\UserDataCache/en-us

Thanks

Looks like the screenshots did not come through.  I'm attempting to add them here.

Hi,

well, you edited the wrong file.

The ACAD.LIN AutoCAD is using (as long as you have the English version and not edited paths) is saved in:

C:\Users\<YourUserName>\appdata\roaming\autodesk\autocad 2015\R20.0\enu\support\acad.lin
