ACAD Screen Freezes, Cursor Disappears During TRIM

Hi All,

I've been suffering for a while with this one, figured I'd share just in case anyone else has been feeling it.

I'll happily be in the middle of something, and all of a sudden the crosshairs stop moving, and the cursor is lost onscreen.  I have 3 screens setup, and when I pass the edge of screen 1, i.e. the main screen where I'm using ACAD, into any other program, the cursor reappears.  I'm noticing this happens particularly when I'm in the middle of a TRIM command, and especially if I selected everything as the trim boundaries.

Anyone else face this?   And do we have a solution?

Cheers,

Mark

Good description. However, what version? Are there service packs and hotfixes installed?

I tried the first option, waited and waited, it never changed colour.

About to try the other option, but this time it locked up during a COPY command, not a TRIM command.

I have also heard the difference between selecting single edge objects versus every object being an edge is to blame, so I try to stick to single edges.

Thanks for the assistance!

Windows 7 Professional

ACAD 2016 & now AutoCAD Electrical 2018, both show the same problem

Alas, not my PC, so I'm not sure what it or is not installed...

Thanks TRogers

Your welcome @MarkFitz!

You can also try resetting AutoCAD with default values, here is the link to the procedure:

Type ABOUT at the command line. When that dialog box pops up, the version will state if there is a Service Pack installed. If there are none, you can download at the link below...

There is also this in there...

Hi Mark,

Is your properties palette open? Is it docked? Do you use auto-hide?  I found a couple old threads where turning off the palette and auto-hide helped as well as to keep it docked. I am not sure this will help or not but I think it might be worth a quick try.

Good morning Gentlemen,

I do apologise for not having replied or responded to anyone's message, it's been kind of hectic here for the past few weeks.  One way of my own time being busy was that I was offered a new laptop, supposedly a little more powerful than my old one.  Using this one, I haven't noticed the glitch.  So I'm more than a little hesitant to try any of the "fixes" you guys have suggested - back to the old adage, if something isn't broken...   I'm not touching it, I'm leaving it very well alone!   I shall definitely archive the information you've given to me for future reference, should I or anyone I know get the same issue in the future.  So having not tried any of the given solutions, I feel it unfair to state that any 1 is an actual solution.  Is that OK?

From other things I've read online, it seems that this is a common glitch through using the Trim ALL feature.  And dare I say, ACAD know about it, but have yet to do something about it.

Many thanks to all!

Later Bros,

Mark
