ACAD-CUSTOM SCALE

Hello,

I am using AutoCAD 2016.

I recently have not been able to edit my custom scales (see attached screen shot).  Once I select Custom, the program does not appear to do anything, I have to escape to exit the command.

Is there a setting that controls the option to edit the custom scale of a viewport?

Is the Scale List Edit dialog box on a second monitor by chance?

Yes, but if I move to my primary screen, its the same performance.

Is 2016 fully patched and updated?

Hello CADEngr2014;

I did not see an answer to Dean's question "Is 2016 fully patched and updated?".

Making sure that SP1 is installed would seem to be a necessary first step. Here is the link if you need it:

AutoCAD 2016 Service Pack 1

Does this happen in just one drawing, or all of them, including a brand new drawing?

If you are having multiple problems with your installation, you might want to consider backing up any customizations, then resetting AutoCAD to defaults to see if that helps:

Steve,

I assume the 2016 program is current with updates.  Since it appears to be taking a long time, I will try again tonight to run the SP1 install.  The probelm occurs on all drawings even newly created drawings using our company templates.

I would not assume anything.

You can check to see if Service Packs are installed by opening AutoCAD, and clicking on the dropdown in the upper right hand corner, just to the right of the question mark, and choosing ABOUT Autodesk AutoCAD 2016. The window that comes up should have Autodesk AutoCAD the upper left hand corner, and on the second line should have the version number, then AutoCAD 2016 SPx if there is a Service Pack installed.

Also, you should try using the standard AutoCAD template and see if that makes a difference.

Steve,

You are correct, I do not have any service packs for 2016 installed.  I will take some time this evening to update that.  Thanks for that tip.  Also, I did try the Autodesk Imperial template and did not get anything different.  I will see if the service pack makes a difference.

Steve,

The service packs 1.0 and 2.0 loaded successfully.   However, there is no difference in the performance of the viewport scale.  Also I found it affects annotation scales; cannot select an annotation scale by selecting the 3-dots next to annotation scale in properties dialog...

I think the next steps should be to try resetting AutoCAD to defaults, then if that doesn't help, try a new profile.

1. Start by backing up any customizations, then resetting AutoCAD:

How to reset AutoCAD to defaults

2. Create a new Windows user profile. Give it Administrative privileges, then log out of the current user, and log back in as the new Admin user and check AutoCAD to see if it is functioning correctly.

Also, can you please tell me which Operating System you are using, and if the installation has ever worked correctly since you installed it?

I probably should have asked you that right off the bat.

@cturlington

Have you had the chance to try either of my two suggestions?

It does sound like your AutoCAD installation or Windows user profile is corrupt.

Also, please let me know what OS you are using.

I look forward to your post.

Hi,

>> I recently have not been able to edit my custom scales

What exactly happens when you start command _SCALELISTEDIT?

Alfred,

The command _scalelistedit does nothing, the program does not appear to respond to it.  I have to escape to return user control.

Steve,

I am using operating system Windows 8.1.  I have not had a chance to try your suggestion.  It may be easier to re-load Civil 3D.

These means the dialog is off screen.

Start the command again, then press <ALT><SPACE> ... a context menu will appear ==> use the cursor keys to change to "Move" then <ENTER> and now again use the cursor keys <Left> or <Right> to get the dialog visible. At the moment it is visible you can use the mouse to set the dialog to a new position.
