ACAD 2016 issues since upgrading

ACAD 2016 issues since upgrading

I've experienced several issues.

  1. In paperspace, my dimension lines and the lines within the viewport are shown misaligned.  Image attached.  If I zoom in and out, it usually corrects.
  2. Xline - When I try to draw from point to point, it seems constrained to some random angle and will change to another random angle when I get near a hot point.  Sometimes it helps to zoom in and out but not always.
  3. I've had an xref disappear and no, I did not delete it.  It was shown as loaded but was nowhere to be found.  Not on a frozen layer.  I detached and attached again.  No problems since.
  4. I've had an xref view doubled and offset.  The parent file was correct.  I reloaded, restarted file, and restarted CAD.  I finally detached and attached again.  No problems since.
  5. I'm often waiting on CAD catch up to my commands and clicks, but not always.
  6. It takes ACAD a million years (ok 3-4 minutes) to shut down.  Meanwhile, my computer is completely bogged down.

I'm not running too many other programs at the time.

I updated to 2016 from 2014 about a month ago.

Any advice.

PC specs?
OS?
Video card?
Are all these problems present in one file?
Where do you store your DWG files?
Did you use the migration tool when you started R2016?

"loading an XREF is not the same as placing it, could that be a solution to one of the problems?
Looking at some of your images you need to use GRAPHICSCONFIG command to turn off LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING and perhaps even hardware acceleration altogether to fix those random lines everywhere.

Dell Precission M6800

Intel Core i7-4810MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz

8.00 GB RAM

WINDOWS 7  64 BIT

AMD radeon HD 8950

The xline constrained problem seems to be isolated to my custom template file.  A file that i created in the 2014 version.  I could redo that.

We store our files on a server on-site, but also I have to drop the files to the hard drive to work off-site, then copy them back to the server.  Sometimes I have to redo the path of the xref.

Hardware acceleration is on.  Smooth line display is off.

I did not use the migration tool.   I made a clunky transfer that I can't even recall.

I'll definitely redo my template file and go from there on my next project.

Thanks!

W

Hi @Anonymous,

I concur with Dean that some of the issues can be explained by linesmoothing and linefading. you might also try disabling hardware acceleration.

Please let me know which graphics card driver you have installed.

Lastly, in changing from local to network XREF file locations, can you describe how you accommodate this process?

Thank you for your response.

The graphics card is and AMD Radeon HD 8950.

Both LINESMOOTHING AND LINEFADING have been and are still off.  If I disable hardware acceleration, I have problems with my cursor jumping around.

In dealing with my XREF between local and network, I just copy and paste.  Not very fancy.  If it doesn't transfer well, I detach and redo the attachment.  Would overlay or attachment work better for this?  Or do you know of a better way of being mobile?  There's one file per project that gets XREF'd.  It's location stays constant.

I greatly appreciate the quick responses to my questions.  I haven't yet but will redo my start template file.  I'm fairly certain the errors are embedded in that file, one I created a few versions ago.  I'll consider this my solution.

Thank you very much,

W

Hi wberzansky,

Please check to see if your Graphics driver is 16.15.2211. This is the most current driver I have found on AMD's site

One thing I like to do in working with XREFs is when I take a copy home, I place it in the same location as the parent drawing. If I then open AutoCAD by using Windows Explorer and double-clicking the parent drawing, the Xref will appear even though the path is different.
