Unusual error:

Command: _VIEWBASE
Specify model source [Model space/File] <Model space>: _M
Unable to perform the requested action. This drawing was last edited with model documentation in a newer version of AutoCAD.

The version is 2022 and till today it works

what version is the inventor file from? Inventor is not backwards compatible so I can imagine that the issue arises when the Inventor file is from a more recent version than your AutoCAD.

My apologies, I jumped too quick. Any chance of sharing your .dwg so we can replicate the error?

According to this link it would be caused by a corrupt layout:

EDIT:
It also looks like the viewbase command is itself also version dependent even when using the Model Space option. According to this that is why any viewbase cannot be edited with earlier versions. Is there any chance the drawing already contains a viewbase that was created in a more recent version of AutoCAD?

I haven't upgraded in three years. It's been AutoCAD 2022 all along. Everything has worked great so far. Apparently, something has been broken with an update

Unfortunately I cannot recreate the issue on my side, both in versions 2022 and 2024 the file you shared works as would be expected.

Have you tried deleting and recreating your layouts? (there's only2)
