3D Dynamic Blocks

When will AutoCAD get the ability to create 3D Dynamic Blocks? I would love to have the ability add parameters and actions to more than one plane (2D). For example, having a rotation action on both the X and Y axis.

Thanks for inquiring about 3D Dynamic blocks.

Although the geometry can be 3D, we currently  only allow creating 2D constraints and parameters on the WCS when in the block editor.

We have heard this before and will keep it under consideration for future enhancements to AutoCAD.

Ditto - it is an essential.

Working with dynamic blocks, I am finding more and more limitations in Autocad - for example - action parameters can't be referenced by user parameters - why not ?

Frustrating how limited Autocad is......

Autodesk has vertical products that might do what you want.

I think it is common to have different levels of functionality depending on product cost.

Examples, automobiles or computers.... ...cell phones...  ... on-and-on.

If the functionality is really essential to your work - I recommend contacting your VAR.

There are other Autodesk products which can do 3D far better - I also have ADT, REVIT and 3DS - however since AutoCAD remains the standard design tool for the built environment it is difficult to provide a client using AutoCAD with a REVIT file.

AutoCAD has the information within the file that is required - but it is simply not accessible

To use the device simile - it is like having a V8 engine - but there are only 6 spark plug leads - the capability is there - but cannot be accessed...

Oh, it's been a long time since I've driven a V8.  Wish I still had that Vette!

But it wasn't essential.

The essential parameter for me now is enough power (which the Vette had, but would have looked ridiculous) to pull a trailer and AWD (which the Vette didn't have).  My Cadillac SUV checks off those essential parameters - with only 6 cylinders.

I was thinking more of AutoCAD as a Briggs & Stratton single cylinder - everyone in the neighborhood has one, maybe a couple of them.  The right tool for the job.  

But we are getting off track with the high-power engine talk (pun intended) - the Wish List is probably the best place for this.

Sounds like a good business opportunity for a 3rd party tuner.

I've been using AutoCAD since Version 2.6. It amazes me when someone says it is limited. It does exactly what they say it does. If you want more functionality, get a vertical. There really isn't much more that can be added to a vanilla cad software.

The ability to created Dynamic Blocks with 3D functionality is also missing from AutoCAD Architecture - the 3D Vertical Product version of AutoCAD - hence the ability is limited.

The inability of User Parameters to reference Action Parameters again limits the functionality of the Dynamic Blocks - this one is inexplicable given that both value are listed within the Parameter Manager.

AutoCAD is a marvellous program - but it has limits just as REVIT has limits.....  The fact is that my specialist design needs exceed the capabilities of the software.

I'm using AutoCAD MEP 2018.  The 3D dynamic block functionality is essentially non-existent.  All you can do is move a 3D object within a dynamic block.  This feature is key for modeling in 3D and being able to manipulate the, for example, length of a threaded rod within a block.  You can't stretch a 3D solid. Any 3D dynamic blocks that I have managed to create are made up of hundreds of 3D faces, which really bogs down the model performance when you reach high block counts.  Please realize the importance of this feature, and address it.  Thanks.
