2020 / 2021 New Drawing file corruption

Hi,

For the last two months its been a bit of a gamble doing work in autocad. Sometime my drawings become corrupt, most the time they work just fine.

When i create a new drawing, do my thing then save and close. come to reopen the file and it requires a recover, the recover window just closes. Yes i can rename the .bak to .dwg and open the file again as a solution to recover my file but this is a hassle, would rather not have the error in the first place.

This is only happening on my machine in the office, i thought the 2020 install may have become corrupt so decided to upgrade to 2021. With 2021 i am still getting these errors. Audits and purges have been done to the file before save.

have attached a corrupt file if it helps anyone.

Anyone else with this problem or with a fix to this?

Hi,

No, not me (and not anyone in my environment.

Where do you save the file to? Network to a server, or to a NAS? And if over a network .. which connection do you have, like strong connection to a local Windows server or maybe a bit slow because of low WLAN signal or slow Internet connection?

What you can do anyway ... turn off your antivirus (make sure to not open unknown documents or Internet links while you are in that state).

Ask your IT team to wipe that PC clean and start other, clone one of the other working-fine PCs. Pointless trying to find a band-aid for it after two programs.

My 2cents worth.

What happens when you don't do your thing and just save the file?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hi @josh_cook,

Maybe your temp folder is full which may cause the saving errors in AutoCAD.  Type %temp% from Windows Search and delete the temporary files in that folder and see if that helps.

Second suggestion is to add Autodesk folders in the exclusion list of Anti-virus or Windows defender so it doesn't block AutoCAD to save the file safely.

Hope this is helpful. Kindly 'Accept as solution' if this answers your question. Thanks,

Thanks @sophia_lee  I have emptied my temp folder. Will see if this helps it.

I have also reset my user profile in windows. Hopefully a combination of the two will sort the issue out.

Had no errors for a few days but the error is back again 😞

Tried deleting the temp files again but dont really want to reset my user profile again.

This problem is really hard to explain and replicate. Sometime i can replicate it non stop for 10 mins then it goes away doing the exact same thing.

This happens on old and new drawings. I have tried all the different save methods.

Only once while i was working on a drawing it locked while i was using it and when i tried to save it said file in use. Not sure if this was related.

Then it's going to be even harder to solve.
