The help file will tell you that Hardware Acceleration has to be on for this to work.  But they fail to mention that it still won't work unless you also check off High quality geometry on the Graphics Performance dialog box.  To be fair I think that it is checked off by default when first turning H.A. on but I think it should be mentioned that the other setting has to be on as well.

Hi, GP.....noticed that LTGAPSELECTION (on my machine anyway) also only functions when zoomed out so that the gaps aren't too large for the routine to detect......maybe some other setting at work here as well....good luck kickin' the tires, bro...

In addition to the hardware acceleration and selecting High quality geometry in the dialog you also have to go to the command line and change LTGAPSELECTION to 1.  Are you saying you did those three things and it doesn't work?

I think I misinterpreted one of your statements.  In stating that you "checked off" high quality geometry, I assumed you meant de-selected (un-checked), which is the way my machine is currently running.  The other items I have set as you describe and what I am seeing is some functionality, but very dependent on how large the apparent gaps in the segmented lines are displaying (how close to the objects you are zoomed in or out).  Will try checking "high quality geometry" & get back to you.  Have you, by the way, tried the new PDF IMPORT "enhancements"?  I have not, but will try it sometime today when I have free time and try to post something on that subject.

I can see where saying "checked off" could easily be misunderstood.  From now on I will say checked on or selected to be on, etc.   Thanks.

I just tried PDFIMPORT on a relatively small file and it did as advertised.  I will try on a more complex file later.

Yeah, I got pretty good results with PDFIMPORT.  Checked the accuracy of the geometry at various distances from one object to another and guess it's about what you can expect.  If I'm not mistaken, this can be tweaked a little by increasing the DPI of the PDF, but can't imagine this would make a big difference.....besides, one can always resort to a relative scaling of distances to alter the geometry if these are known.

My graphics card won't allow me to use the "high quality geometry" setting mentioned before in the discussion pertaining to osnaps working with linetype gaps, so that's a moot point.

Take it slow,

Hello GrantsPirate;

You are correct that the documentation for the command is missing a key piece of information, that High Quality Geometry must be on for this to work.

I have put in a Feature Request, and I would appreciate it if you would too. My reasoning is that hitting this from all sides will get the info the attention it deserves.

For anyone who has a minute, here is the link:

Raising enhancement requests for Autodesk products

Additionally, I have contacted other individuals in the development team to let them know of the omission.

Thanks for pointing this out!

UPDATE:

I have already received some feedback from several different teams, so they are working on it!

I just received another email that the update has been requested, and that "It should also be using DX11" which will be added as well.

@GrantsPirate

I just wanted to let everyone know that the Developers who handle the additions to the Help file have the information, and they will update the system when they do their next update, but I do not know when that is going to be.

The update will reflect the additional information "Hardware Acceleration & High Quality Geometry must be on for this to work, plus LTGAPSELECTION must be set to 1" plus that DX11 needs to be installed for it to work.

Well, it looks like they updated the Help file, but forgot to mention the DirectX 11 requirement!

<sigh>

Time for another email.

I have contacted the Developers and let them know about the omission of the DirectX 11 requirement from the Help files, and I just heard back that they are leaving the documentation as is for this subject.

I will be leaving Autodesk at the end of this month, but I think we should be able to close this subject out now.

If you have any questions going forward, you can contact @john.vellek or @Emmsleys regarding this (or pretty much any other) issue!
