XREF and scaling in paper space

XREF and scaling in paper space

I'm looking for some insight on a issue that is causing the office a lot of headaches!

Here's the scenario:

In the working drawing, model space is set to 1:1 annotation scale. (PSLTS is 1, MSLTS is 1, LTS is 1)

In a separate drawing (used for plot sheets), we place the working drawing in as an XREF (PSLTS is 1, MSLTS is 1, LTS is 1)

When scaling the viewport (XRED) in paper space, say 1:20 scale, the line work, particularly "batting" line type is all out of scale. To fix this we go back to the working drawing and change the annotation to match the desired plot scale, REGEN and then it works. However, some drawings are going to be plotted at 2 or more scales, so it's becoming very time consuming.

Is it possible to draw everything at 1:1, but in plot files set it to any scale in paper space and have all the line types appear as they do in the working drawing.

I look forward to learning if this is possible!

Hi,

Can you post screenshot(s) of your drawing where you see the issue? Or attach drawings (both) here?

The linetype BATTING? Does running REGENALL command fix it after you change the viewport scale? It does here, make sure the viewport is locked.

Following up on your thread, were you able to find a solution? Or a workaround?

I haven't found a solution yet.

I don't think it's a 'problem', but more of a setting or way in which AutoCAD functions?

OR, would it be that if I draw at 1:1 and XREF that drawing in different files at different scales, I would need to alter each line type in the working drawing and change VISRETAIN possible?

I'm asking again:
Can you attach the drawing along with XREF here?

Plus describe what do you want to get in the viewports with different scales:
- do you want linetypes look the same in different viewports?
- or you want them different in different viewports?

Hi @Anonymous,

Is it possible that you have assigned specific scales to your lines using CELTSCALE?  Do the linetypes display properly in the file (in Paperspace) before xrefing the drawing into a host file?

Does changing PSLTSCALE to 0 change the appearance of the lines?

I too would like to see your sample drawings so that I can make more informed suggestions on you might correct this behavior.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.
