Xclip not working - print preview/PDF

When I use an xclip in model space the xclip boundary has the desired effect in model and in the viewport paperspace.  However, when I print preview or create PDF, the whole reference file does not appear. Any ideas on this one would be greatly appreciated.

issue sorted.  Simple.  The reference file had moved to a non-print layer
