It's been a few years, but I need to determine if AutoCAD LT is worthy... Where did BLIPMODE go?

Deprecated several versions ago.

If you want it on, try this:

Command: REDEFINE
Enter command name: blipmode

There does not appear to be a "REDEFINE" command in AutoCAD LT for Mac. All
I get is, "SETVAR Enter new value for BLOCKREDEFINEMODE <1>:".

All bets are off for LT, and doubly off for the crippled Mac version.

one more thing to try - enter .blipmode (note the period prefix)

Hi @drew7KRQP

.BLIPMODE

(with period in front of the name) should work on Mac.

Unknown command "BLIPMODE". Press F1 for help.

To be clear, I *did* add the period in front of the command—it just doesn't exist in AutoCAD LT for Mac.

Did you put a period before the variable name?

Thanks, Maxim.
It seems this topic was moved to the AutoCAD for Mac forum, rather than AutoCAD LT forum where it was originally posted. I'd put the status as "no longer supported" functionality. It's too bad. I've seen decades of bad drawings which could have been helped had the operator just turned on the blipmode and noticed where their snaps were actually snapping. It's a feedback thing.

Another topic I'll want to explore is the UI/UX... why are the icons so small? I have 27" 4K monitor and I gotta say, the icons are a real drag on drawing productivity. That and the fact that "measure" no longer seems to "measure" a distance... ugh.

Hi Drew,

Actually BLIPMODE is still there in AutoCAD LT for Mac, even in 2022 version. And you can enable it.

1/ Quit AutoCAD LT

2/ Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/AutoCAD LT 2022 Standalone/R24.1/local folder and find HKCU_V1.plist file in it. Note - it is Library folder inside your Home folder, not in the root folder of your Mac . If you have 2021 version, then replace 2022 with 2021 in the path above.

3/ Open HKCU_V1.plist in plain text editor and use Find function to find BLIPMODE:

on the next line replace 0 with 1Ж

4/ Save HKCU_V1.plist and close it.

5/ Launch AutoCAD LT and test "blips", they should be there.

6/ To revert back - edit HKCU_V1.plist again and replace 1 with 0.

>>>>why are the icons so small?

Do you mean icons on the Tool Sets palette?

Yes, most of them are really small. And there is no official way to make them bigger. Look >>>here<<<

>>>>>"measure" no longer seems to "measure" a distance

Not sure what do you mean?

@drew7KRQP FWIW the AutoCADLT forum is WindowsOS users exclusively: your post was moved to the correct forum for MAC users of the two variants of AutoCAD, this is the only one Autodesk provides and they chose not to label it LT so as not to confuse the majority non-LT users on MacOS.

If my buddy and esteemed macOS guru @maxim_k cannot figure it out for you then no solution exists and you'll need to reach out to Autodesk Support at your Account page over here https://manage.autodesk.com/home/

Now you know.

This ^^^^^^^

On another note, I wonder if Autodesk can count on two hands how many AutoCAD LT for MAC they've rented?

Very nice, Maxim!

I was able to edit HKCU_V1.plist in ProperTree:

I kind of meant all of them... but I'll look at your process for changing the sizes.

Not sure what do you mean?

I was using the "MEASURE" command—which appears to be functionally useless. Looks like the updated command is "MEASUREGEOM":

MEA commandMEA command

(a few blips thrown in a for good measure... pun intended)

Thank you!

Drew,

By default after installation MEASUREGEOM starts in "Quick" mode, you can turn off default "Quick" mode with "Mode" option:

Thank you, Maxim.

Good explanation. I must have been using the "DIST" icon in past versions.

Yes, this method doesn't work in AutoCAD for Mac.

Please look at another solution >>>>here<<<<
