Viewport in layout won't change scale

Hi all,

I can't seem to change a viewport in layout view to show my drawing properly. No matter what I do the page only shows a very zoomed in view or a very zoomed out view. I have tried all menu options witht he word scale in, including the scale list. I have looked in the properties inspector.

Help!

I forgot to change that to include this.

I accidentally found out that if I click on the viewport border I get a scale on the bottom toolbar that actually works. Thank goodness.

But now when I change the zoom the actual content flies off the page and I can't pan to get it back. Why does it do this?

Hi,

Yes, you are right, you can change viewport scale from Status Bar:

In order to be able to set scale for viewport (and pan and zoom inside viewport) it should be unlocked (look at lock-unlock icon)

If you want to set scale and see the right contents - at first make some preparations: activate viewport, unlock it (if it is locked), then zoom approximately into area you want to see inside viewport, then select appropriate scale, the fine-tune position with PAN command.

BTW, you can also control viewport scale from Properties palette with Viewport selected:

But that is exactly it, I can't pan or otherwise move to the drawing. The drawing is somewhere off the the left and I when I pan it moves the entire page.

Once again - check if Viewport is locked - Unlock it, please.
If this failed - could you post your drawing here? (Compress it before attaching to the post)

It is not locked. I can change the scale, just not move to where I want to be.

 It is attached, thanks.

It is really strange why you can not navigate inside Viewport after changing scale.

I am able:

1/ double-click inside viewport, zoom approximately to the place I want to show in viewport,

2/ set appropriate scale, for example to 1:2,

3/ fine-tine with PAN the position of drawing elements (plan)

4/ double-click outside viewport (or call PS command) to switch back to Layout (Paper space)

After step 3 you can lock viewport with botton on Status bar without exiting from viewport

Hi Maxim

Thank you. I didn't know I needed to double click inside the viewport. How incredibly frustrating. Thanks for helping me as without it I would not have figured that out.

Now I just need a scale;)

Hi Momand,

I noticed that page setup for the Layout 1 already have scale 1:100. Why?
If you are using Layout as representation of "real world" sheet of paper, and you want to compose viewports on this sheet, you need to use 1:1 scale for the Layout. Than you can set scale for viewport. There is no shortcut for this purpose, but in AutoCAD for Mac you can select viewport and set it's scale with scale list on the Status Bar.

Which scale you want to set?

Do you mean ZOOM command?

Command: ZOOM
Specify corner of window, enter a scale factor (nX or nXP), or
[All/Center/Dynamic/Extents/Previous/Scale/Window/Object] <real time>: 1/100xp
Command:

If you will use XP option with numeric scale expression, such as 1/100, than you can set viewport scale to 1:100 as in example above

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Desire,

You are using Imperial units in Model space and are trying to set the scale in Imperial units, but the paper size in the Layout is in metric units.
Selup paper size in inches and it will be 25.4 times smaller, thus the viewport will be smaller and objects in the Model space will fit in it perfectly.

Using Page Setup manager edit Page Setup for the Layout as follows:
