Upgraded to El Capitan, now I cannot live paint postscript from AutoCAD

When I upgraded to El Capitan I can no longer live pant the postscripts from AutoCAD in Illustrator.

I am creating line work in AutoCAD and using a pdf writer to print to a postscript file. The file is then imported into Illustrator and painted, etc.

Previous to El Capitan the PS file was paintable, you could paint each field and the line work was editable. Now with El Capitan the postscript in Illustrator is as if you imported a static image and not paintable or editable. I have tried updating PDF_writer to no avail,  and adobe PDF writer is "no longer supported in the whatever OSX environment." The same thing happened on my macbook pro when I upgraded to El Capitan.

I am running a 16gig late 2013 iMac, on El CApitan, Using AutoCAD 2016 LT (the problem happened with 2015 as well.)

Any help????

Hi,

Why you don't use Illustrator "DWG import" feature to bring your artwork from AutoCAD to AI? I personally always use it and never had problems with live paint in Illustrator, of course if AutoCAD drawing was created with precision.

The main reason is I have line weights set in AutoCAD and when I tried that in the past that import generally came in with uniform line weight...

Line weights are correct on my side if I use "ByLayer" line weights in the drawing and assign line weights to the Layers.
Now I'm using Adobe Illustrator CC 2015 and worked with DWG import a few days ago. Everything was OK with line weights in Illustrator after I imported DWG.

Well I gave the DWG import a try and Illustrator says it doesn't recognize the file type, even when the file type selector is set to autocad DWG files... Maybe I'll try a reinstall of all my creative cloud.

In Illustrator I always use File -> Open to import DWG. If I need specific paper size for imported DWG, I always create AI file with Artboard sizes I need.
Plus, I always save DWG in 2010 format before importing it in AI.

Well I re-installed all my creative cloud anyway.

When I imported the DWG (saved in 2010,) it imported just fine but all the line weights were the same. I checked our settings in AutoCAD and each layer ("ByLine") has it's specific line weight specified. If I can figure out how to get the line weights to work this would be an absolute solution. I'm trying to avoid wiping my machines and reverting to yosemite.

Is ther anything else you're selecting when importing into ilustrator? I've tried a lot of the settings and the defaults seem to get me closest to what I want without the line weights.

Thanks for the help so far!

Please attach one of your DWG files which have problem with lineweights after importing to AI. I'll look at it.

All layers in your drawing have the same lineweight - default, which is by default 0.25:

That is why you have same lineweights in Illustrator.

When you print from AutoCAD you are using Plot Style Table file where all lineweights are defined, but AI cannot handle Plot Style Table files.

You need to assign lineweights to the layers, than AI will be able to use them during import.

Yah I was afraid after I sent the file that that was the case, with the plotter file. I sincerely appriciate the help, I think that importing the DWG directly into Illustrartor will be the work around in El Capitan.

Cheers!

Also a note for those interested I think perhaps my postscript problem may have something to do with new security surrounding fonts and postscripts.
