Student License to expire; Purchase LT vs full license?

Student License to expire; Purchase LT vs full license?

Hi all,

My student license is set to expire in December, I think-  How can I find out for certain?

I've been running Autocad for Mac, using it entirely for landscape design drafting and graphics.  I'm wondering if the LT version will give me all that I need for creating landscape plans?  I used the solid modeler once, just to check it out- it's very cool, but I will not need this.  (I last used a solid modeler in the 1990's SDRC Ideas!)

So my questions:

1) Will the LT version be adequate- is there anything missing other than the 3D elements?  Is there a comparison chart that shows the difference between the two programs?

2) Is the look and feel of the LT version really different than Autocad for Mac's drafting interface?  If so, can I try the LT version between now and the time my student license expires, to be sure I like all that it has before I purchase?  Or perhaps there's another way to try the LT version before I purchase it?  It seems crazy to buy the full version when I'm using only a small part of its capability.

3) Would the files I've created in Autocad for Mac be compatible with Autocad LT?

I've attached a PDF of a file I've created to show how I use Autocad now.  Some features I definitely rely on: Attaching a PDF, hatching, annotation with labels, multi leaders, etc.  measuring. I go about things by creating a model in modelspace and then pulling it into paperspace.

Thanks for your help!

Helen

LT is good enough for many professionals in business: it really depends on what features you use that you may miss by switching.
Only you can answer that question: get the trial of LT and find out.

Hi Dean,

Thanks for reply.  Will I have any trouble installing and using the LT version while I still have the full version installed, or do I need to uninstall the original Autocad for Mac?  Will LT be able to open my existing Autocad for Mac files?  Were you able to see my PDF?

Thanks,

Helen

LT trial should not interfere at all with your other AutoCAD installations.

Hi Helen,

You can install and use AutoCAD LT trial alongside AutoCAD you already have on your Mac.
You will be able to ooen your existing drawings.
Your PDF file has not been attached to a topic.

will do. I am going to download the LT version and see how it goes.

Also, how can I determine when my Autocad student license expires?

>>> how can I determine when my Autocad student license expires?

Use menu AutoCAD->About AutoCAD -> Product information button, you will see "License expiration date" field on the right side of the dialog box.
