Slow launch of AutoCAD LT 2018 in High Sierra with AFPS

Slow launch of AutoCAD LT 2018 in High Sierra with AFPS

I am experiencing very slow launch times (3 minutes) and slow file loads (1-2 minutes) on a 2017 top line 27"5K iMac, 40 GB RAM. It takes about 2 minutes until the interface launches and the beach-ball spins for another minute until the tool icons load.  I tried the permission/terminal fix I saw in a previous post. Once things are loaded up the program is very speedy and saves instantly. Any idea how to speed up launches?

Hi William,

I believe you have the same problem as OP has in this topic:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac-forum/auto-cad-2017-for-mac-high-sierra-launch-slow/m...

And looks like developers are still working on it.

Maxim

Hi @Anonymous,

I am sorry that you are seeing the slow start up issue.

Please follow these steps:

  • Start AutoCAD
  • Open Activity Monitor and locate AutoCAD in the list
  • Double-click the AutoCAD in the list and select Sample in the resulting dialog. This will save the activity to a sample file.
  • Please send me the sample file so I can get it to development.

Thanks for help John. Attached is the process sample from the Activity Monitor. I tried Safe Boot and it was still slow loading. I also tried zapping NVRAM which did reduce the CPU usage for the WindowServer. Not sure if any of these steps help.

Hi @Anonymous,

Let me get this to QA and see what they can do for us.

Thanks for your patience.

I experience the same problem, with a new Macbook pro 15", 16GB Ram 2,9Ghz i7.

The start is so slow you think something is seriously bad. Trying to open the templates also takes a long long time.

I'm totally new to AutoCad, a bit more experienced than a beginner. I have worked with Sketchup, Creo and some Solidworks a bit before on Windows.

So as a first impression, I hope this problem's handled quickly as the experience is not good.

Best regards

Karl

HI @Anonymous,

I am sorry that you are having this performance issue. Can you capture a sample file for me? The process is outlined in Step 3

Sure.

Do want the sample in the initial loading phase or later in when opening a file?

HI @Anonymous,

Thanks for the quick response. Why don't you create one for both conditions? Hopefully this will help the team get a better idea of what might be causing the problem.

Sample 1 Early in starting phase

Sample 2 Later when the system says the app doesnt respond.

Sample 3 Closed the main window and clicked open in the file menu.

HI @Anonymous,

One option to try if you have not done so already, is as follows:

  • Quit AutoCAD
  • Open the Terminal window, and run the following script (you can copy and paste it in terminal and hit Enter):

scutil --set HostName $(scutil --get LocalHostName)

  • Input admin password if it asks for permission.

I am still waiting for the team to give me more information on this issue.

Hi @Anonymous,

This is Wei in the ACAD Mac team. I am reading your sample files. Apart from John's last suggestion, I have a few more questions that could be related to this issue:

1. Are you using trial license?

2. Does it slow every time when you launch AutoCAD?

3. How long does it take for a slow launch, 3 min, 5 min?

4. Could you please check in the Activity Monitor, when AutoCAD launches slowly, do you see the process with name "AdSSO-v2" shows in the process list?

5. When AutoCAD launches slowly, and finally open the window, what do you see for the drop-down button on the top right of the window? It is for your login/logout/manage license and please try if it is OK when you click on it.

6. Are you using proxy settings in your network?

Thanks,
Wei

Wei,

I did try John's suggestion and there was no change in slow loading times. To respond to your points:

1. I am not on a trial license, this is a subscription license.

2. Yes, the slow start happens every time, even when rebooting into safe mode, or rebooting when connected to the internet only through iPhone tether.

3. The slow launching takes around 5 minutes in two phases. The splash screen shows quickly, to get the interface takes around 3 minutes, and then to get the tool bar icons to display takes another 2 minutes or so.

4. I do show the AdSSO-v2 process showing in the activity monitor. During launch AutoLT shows in red as not-resonding. Then no AdSSO-v2 when running LT.

5. The drop-down in the upper left has only the human head profile, and does not show my name or account info. Pulling down causes endless beach-ball spinning resulting in having to force-quit.

6. I do have a couple of proxy settings when connecting through ethernet, but when connecting via tether to iPhone there are no proxy settings and the same slow-launch occurs.

Thanks for the help.

-Bill

I was able to solve this problem with a clean install of High Sierra followed by a clean install of AutoCAL LT2018 without the migration of 2017 settings. I am not sure if the migration was the problem, but I am up and loading quickly now. Thanks.

Hi Bill,

I got your files and replied you in email, but not see your response yet. In the same time, we are trying a fix with the info shown in your log files.

Thanks for the update with this new info. In this case, may I get your 2017 profiles to check what might cause this issue?

1. In Terminal window, type the following:

cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/Autodesk

open .

2. in the popup Finder window, find the AutoCAD LT 2017 folder, zip it, and send to my email: wei.ma@autodesk.com

Thanks and have a good day.

Wei
