polyline drawing in 3d when it shouldn't and .xy not helping

I've set a UCS to an object, UCSDETECT=0, yet the polyline I then start to draw does not confine itself to the UCS plane as expected. It still lists itself as a poly line in the properties pane, once finished when in fact by definition it has just drawn a 3d one - how?

If this is new I don't remember seeing mention of it. I can see it might be useful sometimes but I need to constrain it to the Z-plane frequently - like now. Have I missed a setting somewhere?

I thought a workaround might help but in addition the .xy filter while still listed in right click during a command doesn't want to work. During poly line command it just takes no notice, in line command it accepts the .xy command but takes no notice of the picked z co-ordinate.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi charlie,

If you set UCS to an object (2D polyline), you should get plyline in the same XY plane as the first polyline.
Can you share your drawing here?
I can look at it. Just mark somehow the polyline you need to continue.

That was exactly my point.

I think I've found the problem. By shear coincidence the viewpoint I was using overlaid too many points and the software wasn't broken just me. It looked like it wasn't behaving but once rotated a bit further round and zooming in it all became clear
