plotting 1:1 ratio - paper space vs model space

plotting 1:1 ratio - paper space vs model space

I'm trying to understand the various plotting functions, and at the moment having problems with plotting 1 to 1 (full scale).

If i plot from PAPER space using the "window" to select the part i want to plot, leaving the "fit to paper" box blank, and choosing a 1:1 ratio, the plot output is NOT to scale. see attached "5.pdf"

However, If i plot directly from MODEL space using the "window" selection, leaving the "fit to paper" box blank, and choosing a 1:1 ratio, the plot DOES scale correctly. see attached "8.pdf"

Is there a way plot 1 to 1  from paper space?  Is it a matter of setting up the characteristics of the paper space layout? I think i've tried everything.

Hi Andrew,

Printing from paper space always assumes (by design) a scale of 1: 1 - this is precisely why paper space exists. You create page setup with paper size you need to be printed, then create viewports in the Layout with desired scale, then print with "Print Layout" (not "Window") option activated. So in Paper space output scale determined by the viewport scale.

Can you share the drawing in question? I'll look at it.

Hi Maxim,

Thanks for this. I hadn't been able previously to find the menu option for scaling the viewport. Part of the problem is that i can't see many of the full menu item names, no matter how i adjust the working window, many of the menu items are truncated, which is frustrating. See attached screenshot. The menu item for scaling the viewport, you will see, is only visible as "Standard s.."

I did find something similar to what i was looking for in the help section, but it doesn't work for me, titled "To Modify a Layout Viewport Scale Using the Properties Inspector" it says...

  1. Click the border of the viewport whose scale you want to modify.
  2. Right-click, and then choose Properties.
  3. In the Properties Inspector, select Standard Scale, and then select a new scale from the list.

The scale you choose is applied to the viewport.

    Note:

To use a custom scale, enter a scale in the Custom Scale field in the Properties Inspector.

When i do this however, as soon as i choose "properties" the option for scaling or "Standard scale" disappears. In actuality, i find that i only need step one to access the "Standard scale" menu option. No need to choose properties.
