Plotstyle sharing between pc and Mac?

Hello,

I wonder if anyone else has had this issue.

I have created a plot style on my Mac version of AutoCAD LT 2021, and shared it with a colleague who works on a PC. When they try to plot using that style, rather than plotting lines as black, which I set, the plot style reverts to 'plot as object colour'.

If we both open the same plot style using AutoCAD Plotstyle Editor, all of my colours are set to plot in black, and theirs set to plot as object colour.

I attach the .ctb plotstyle, cad drawing, and pdf as it should plot.

Has anyone experienced this? And if so, do you know of any solutions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Maxim_k,

You are welcome to try the attached which we tested and found that it also seems to revert to plot colour - object colour, rather than black. I attach the plotstyle and how it looks on my Mac.

Thank you!

@ewalshaw82

With the last CTB file I can reproduce the issue on my side.

I'll try to investigate the issue further, just give me some time.

Hi @ewalshaw82 ,

Looks like I figured out the roots of the problem.

When you edit and save CTB file with Plot Style Editor on Mac, it saves color description in a format different from the "classic" description on PC.

Plot Style Editor on Mac and AutoCAD for Mac can read correctly "classic" color descriptions in CTB files, created on PC, but Plot Style Editor and AutoCAD for Windows cannot read correctly color descriptions in CTB file, created with Plot Style Editor on Mac.

Further more, I found out that Plot Style Editor that came with the 2019 AutoCAD for Mac version, save CTB files in "classic" format and AutoCAD for Windows reads these files correctly.

Hello @maxim_k,
Thank you so much for your investigation and your findings! This is really interesting. If I don't have 2019 AutoCAD for Mac, would you say there is any solution to the problem? (Actually it is worth noting I am using Autocad LT 2021.)

Hi @ewalshaw82,

>>>>>>would you say there is any solution to the problem?

Obviously this is a bug, so only developers can fix it.

I recently ran across this issue. I created a plot style using AutoCAD LT for Mac 2023 and a colleague running '21 on Windows was unable to use it. I found this thread and the link to download AutoCAD for Mac 2018.2 (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-for-mac/troubleshooting/caas/downloads/content/autoca...). After installing, I could use the Plot Style Editor application in the AutoCAD installation folder to re-save the plot style and that worked.

I don't know if it's a bug with how the current version of AutoCAD for Mac saves plot styles, or if this new format has yet to make it into AutoCAD for Windows, but this was a nightmare to figure out. Hoping this gets resolved soon, so we don't have to use this workaround.

Hi, a colleague of mine and I have the same problem, if he passes me a print style from a Mac, my PC doesn't read it, did you manage to solve it?

The issue is fixed in ACAD Mac 2024.1. Please install this update on Mac, re-save the ctb file, and try it on PC.
