Overlay .dwg file

Hi All - Im trying to overlay a .dwg file from and engineer and Im having trouble. (auto cad LT for MAC)

I go to INSERT and select OVERLAY and select the file.

It then takes me to the model screen and asks me to insert an insertion point? How do I know where this is?

Sorry for the silly question - I haven't done this before.

I have created a landscape plan on top of the civil drawings initially provided to me - They have updated these civil drawings and I need to check the changes in the road design.

Hi,

The insertion point can be located anywhere - at your request.
Another thing - if you need to align two drawings (engineer and yours) - than you can insert external reference at any point and than manually align it with your drawing contents using known reference points.

Unfortunately - they didn't - The first video I couldn't quite follow. 

Im having trouble with getting the drawing to show up when i go to insert the insertion point/scale.

Hi,

At first you need to set coordinate system in both drawings (master and external reference) to World coordinate system (WCS).

In master drawing turn on current layer (I noticed that it is turned off).

Than in your master drawing, use menu Insert -> DWG reference, select external reference, select options in Insert DWG window, select OK and when AutoCAD will ask for the insertion point - type 0,0 and hit Return.
Reference should be in correct place.
