Ortho mode not working when turned on

Hi, I have ortho mode turned on and it is snapping to a point on a line which creates a slightly crooked line, not at a right angle. I never had issue with this before... is the software glitching? How do I fix it?

I have a Mac and am using AutoCAD 2025

If you have running osnaps set this can override the orthomode setting.

When an object snap is found that's not at an orthogonal angle it'll snap to that location.

Hi @keharveyLMCKK ,

Do you have this issue in all of your drawings?

Have you checked that all objects in the drawing are located in one construction plane (are flat) and view direction  is perpendicular to this construction plane (PLAN command)?

I do have osnap turned on… but without it … it won’t snap to the line I’m trying to connect to.

I think it’s a glitch because I’ve used autoCad for over a year and never had this issue

I do not know how to use the plan command, what is that?

Thea issue is happening in multiple drawings. I even opened a brand new drawing and it’s still happening

try this...

Start a new blank drawing.

Draw a line on the screen that extends from one end to another at some distance but with 0 rotation so it's just a horizontal line on the screen.

Now start the Line command again and this time begin in the midpoint of the line using osnap midpoint and then with orthomode turned on click the endpoint of the line with osnap endpoint.

Do you have a perfectly horizontal line one on top of another?

Yes that works, however the problem is when I'm trying to create a perpendicular line to an existing line somewhere in the middle of the line but not exactly the middle

I right clicked on Osnap  and then checked "perpendicular" and that seems to have fixed the issue !

looks like you probably don't have perpendicular as part of the running object snaps.
