offset dimensions

I'm struggling to understand why having set an offset distance for dim lines using the DIMSTYLE and Modify panel. My dimensions are appearing at the correct distance as a preview for body selections then reappearing at a seemingly random though very close distance from the geometry so that I have to drag it out again to a random distance which means that after adding a few dimensions they are all set at different and random distances from my object. Why is this and can it be worked around some how?

all best

Luke

Can you illustrate which offset distance do you mean?
Show us screenshot of Dimension Style window and your drawing with dimensions.

Keep in mind that all distances you set for Dimension Style are multiplied by "Use overall scale of" option on "Fit" tab of Dimension Style settings - DIMSCALE variable, unless you are using Annotative dimension Style.

Hi Maxim,

Sorry for not replying sooner. I've attached pre and post click screenshots for the problem which only seems to occur when selecting the body of a line with a single click (as opposed to clicking at each end). I'd also very much like to know how to change unannotative or 'Standard' dimensions into Annotative dimensions in autocad for Mac as this could save me time in future.

many thanks

Luke

>>>> My dimensions are appearing at the correct distance as a preview
Yes, it is just a preview. You cannot set fixed distanse from measured object to dimension line in dimension style, each time you need to specify this distance manually except for the case when you use continue dimension.

You can make the whole Dimension Style annotative by checking "Annotative" option on the "Fit" tab of Dimension Style. All dimensions you put after changing Annotative property will get this property.
Or you can make individual dimension annotative by selecting it and enabling "Annotative" property on Properties Palette.
