Multiline text attribute in a block location problem

DeanMN777

Hello,

I have created several blocks in Full Windows AutoCAD 2018 saved to 2013 file format. A consultant I am working with is using Windows AutoCAD LT. There are no issues open/closing and editing the drawings containing the blocks.

Another consultant is using Macintosh AutoCAD 2018. The Multi-line text attribute in the blocks is shifting up and slightly to the right in the drawings returned to me.
We have tried locking the location of the attribute. attsync causes the text to go blank.

Any fix or insight?

The attached G-ANNO-SHEET INFO2.dwg file grabs the sheet number from the tab.

The attached Z-ANNO-DETL-2 is the greatest Detail Bubble ever created. Send me some $ if you use it. :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

Hi Dean,

That is well knowing and very old bug.
The only one way to stop multiline attributes from shifting from its original position is to save drawings in 2018 DWG format and use only this (2018) DWG format while exchanging drawings.

Hi @DeanMN777,

Let me verify your workflow as i understand it. You have a drawing that contains multiline attributes.  You save this file from AutoCAD 2018 (Windows) to a 2013 format. You send this out and the recipient edits the file using AutoCAD for Mac.  When it is returned to you, the file shows the attributes shifted slightly.

Do you have a sample file that I can try with your workflow?

Hello,

Yes, that is the workflow, but with AutoCAD LT for Mac.  Two of the blocks affected by the problem are included in my original posting.  Thanks.

Hi @DeanMN777,

When I insert the Z block into a new drawing (Windows AutoCAD), this is what I am seeing when I enter some text in the first multi-line attribute.

Capture.PNG

I have not dissected your block to see if this is intentional. I see also that you have custom fonts (non-Windows or AutoCAD provided) that I don't have.  So some font substitution is taking place.

Is it possible to share your fonts for testing on my side? I want to make sure this looks correct before I enter the Mac side of this issue.

Hi @DeanMN777,

Thanks for the font. I will play with this today to see if I can find any way to improve the workflow.  Maxim let me know that he had already tested this issue a couple months ago and that the team thought that it had been resolved.

Apparently, if you do not change file format versions then the attributes position should round-trip between platforms without issue.  I would like to explore the possibility of using an exporttoautocad to save to a different version in lieu of a default save to an older version.

Otherwise, the obvious but perhaps solution is to get the AutoCAD for Mac user to use version 2018 so that the file does not have to be saved down to the older version.

[EDIT] I will need to try this late this afternoon. I had an accident on my bike commute last Monday so I only carried one computer into the office today but I will test on the Mac when I get home. Thanks for your patience.

Hi @DeanMN777,

I took your blocks between platforms several times and as long as I do not change the file format then everything behaves as expected.  For instance, if I am working in AutoCAD 2019 (Windows, and save the file to a 2018 format, I can open it in AutoCAD 2018 for Mac without seeing any strange issues. I can then save the file and move back to Windows and the attribute locations are still correct.

When the file format is changed to an older version such as 2013, then the attribute location does change.  This has been logged with the team for them to investigate.

Thank you, John!

My consultants are now using the 2018 file format.
