Missing Menu's, tool bars and everything!

Screen Shot 2018-01-25 at 1.17.07 PM.png

As you can see from this screenshot, I have been working successfully on AutoCAD 2017 on my MacBook Air, but then suddenly last night it glitched and I lost all controls that are normally on the left and right side of the screen, as well as the menu bar at the top. Help! I can still draw and do some things, but I can't work with layers etc.

I downloaded and installed AutoCAD for Mac 2017 last August, the first AutoCAD version I've ever had. I have not had any recent updates to my computer.

What went wrong, and how do I fix it? Do I have to uninstall the program and reinstall it?

TIA!!

Hi @jewelwingstudio,

Have you tried a Reset? Go to the top of your AutoCAD Window and look for the AutoCAD 2017 menu, drop it down and select Reset AutoCAD. You can also perform a Reset by holding the SHIFT key down when launching AutoCAD. Let me know if this helps to resolve the issue.

Hi John,

Thank you for your reply. I did not know there was a reset button. Before I got your reply, I went ahead and uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. It seems to work fine now.

If it happens again, I'll try the reset trick!

Hi John,

I have another problem now. When I re-installed AutoCAD for Mac on my MacBook Air, I downloaded the 2018 version because, well, it was there. I worked many, many hours over the weekend on my project.

But now I'm in class again this morning, and I tried to upload my file to the school computer so I can use it on the laser (and so my teacher can grade it), but I'm getting the message that the school's computer can't open it because it was created with a more recent version of AutoCAD. It's telling me to download DWG TrueView from the Autodesk website.

However, as far as I can tell, there isn't a DWG TrueView available for Mac. What do I do?

Thanks!

Oh, never mind. I figured it out. I just saved my file as an earlier version using "save as". I feel like kind of an idiot asking the question in the first place now. 😕
