Hello, I have a Mac using the 2015 auto cad version, for some reason I'm missing the home button where i think it allows you to make new layers. So basically i need to know where/how to make new layers than to eventually combine them together? I hope my question is clear enough.

Attach i have a screenshot of how my auto cad looks missing the "home" button.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!
Hi Imani,

In AutoCAD for Mac you can create new layer in Layers palette (expand "Show layers list", the New layer button is on the bottom left of the palette).
Or you can use command line -LAYER command with Make option to create new layer and set it current.

Is just that I'm trying to create separate layers and then eventually be able to merge them all together. So what I'm saying is that I do see how to write and create a new layer but I don't know how to create a blank slate when i do make new layers if that makes sense. When i hit new layer it doesn't rid me of the previous design i started with it just has the word new layer but my design is still there.

You can create "new design" in AutoCAD only by creating new drawing, but not new Layer.
Are you former Vectorworks user?

No I'm not a vector user sadly. Okay my next question is, is there a way to draw all my structures in one layer and then deselect and select certain structures when i need to? Similar to layout editor if you're familiar.

At first, can you explain: what do you mean by "layer"? looks like your idea of "layer" does not correspond to the terminology used in AutoCAD:

Hi Imani,

Thanks for asking questions!

Do you want a clean canvas after create a new layer? Hope it could solve your problem.

1. new a layer by click Layer button in Layer palette.  e.g. There are some entities in Layer 0 and Layer1. I create a new layer: Layer2. And double click Layer2 to make it current.

2. Then turn off other layers by clicking the round buttons before layer name. So that other entities are hidden.

However, we usually don't use AutoCAD in this way. Creating a new drawing for a new design is much better.
