keyboard lag - LT for Mac 2017

In addition to a mouse issue ( http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac-forum/lt-2017-for-mac-problems-with-mouse/td-p/6763489 ), I am experiencing a lag or delay issue with my usb keyboard. I am working on a late 2016 Macbook Pro (max'ed out graphics card, 16GB RAM, etc.) with an Apple USB Extended Keyboard.

A good example is using the TRIM or EXTEND command -- I type in TR and quickly hit the space bar for Enter, and then hit the space bar again for Select All. However, I often need to hit space bar/return a third time because one of the first two did not register. If I don't hit Enter a third time or pay close attention to the command line for what phase I'm in, I would end up clicking objects to determine the trim extents instead of moving on to Select All and already be trimming. So currently I have to type in TR, wait a second, which interrupts the pace of drawing, hit the space bar or return key, wait another second, and finally hit the space bar or return key again.

It's very disruptive to be slowed by brand new software on a brand new machine. Autocad LT 2014 on my six year old PC was far more quick and responsive.

Thanks Sarah. It does feel snappier, which of course is great! With a few quick tests this morning, I'm still having issues of typing EX and then two quick space bar presses, it only registers one space bar press, so I have to wait a split second for one more or just remember to wait between the first two. I don't mean to be ungrateful, I appreciate the work put in to improve things.

What will resolve this for me, and I understand this is just me ;), is to enable reassigning the function keys to commands of our choosing. Previously on the PC, I had function keys set for TRIM and EXTEND, so I would hit F5/F6 and then enter, and perhaps that brief pause between key presses made the difference. (For the record, this is my personal soap box, and I've already filed a request for this feature. It how I've worked for over a decade, so it's a matter a familiarity for me.)

Hi @tuskey

I would need to do some additional investigating, I'll circle back to you. If you'd like I can create a whole new thread off of your post. Since its kind of a new question, that way we can get more community members to actively engage in this topic. I figure the more input the better right. :cara_con_una_leve_sonrisa:

Hi @Emmsleys

That sounds good to me! I'm in favor of whatever it takes to facilitate this becoming a reality.

Thanks

I am also experiencing a keyboard lag, and the latest hotfix did not correct the issue. My problem is that my CAD LT 2017 for Mac misses a character after a space bar, probably every 3-4 words when I am typing. I usually use MTEXT to note my drawings and this is where I am having trouble. Any new thoughts?

Ex: "THIS ENTENCE SHOULD EAD THAT MY AUTOCAD IS HAVING ROUBLE SKIPPING LETTERS T HE BEGINNING OF A WORD"

-This is what I typed into an MTEXT box, it skipped 5 letters out of 18 words.

I didn't know about the update in 2017 so never tried. I did experience lots of trouble with the Lag. It is ofcourse quite irritating if you have to wait after a command. Now I updated Autocad to 2018 and I stil have the lag.

It doesn't say that there is an update....

The Lag is with al kinds of commands. Also if you click and then zoom out... Then the click is on a different place where you actually clicked. Therefore you even have to wait to zoom out....

For anyone who feels that hitting the spacebar feels 'lag', please try turn off the spacepan. In commandline, type spacepan, and set it to 0.

The space pan enables that if you hold the spacebar, you can pan the drawing. That requires a tiny time to confirm that you are holding the spacebar, not hit it, so that causes a tiny time to respond. It is fine in most cases, but if you need to hit spacebar repeatedly and quickly, that might feel laggy.

Turn off the spacepan will disable the function to pan the drawing by holding spacebar.

@cforrestdrafting, for the mtext input issue with space, it is deliberately fixed in the 2018 version, and you do not have to turn off spacepan.

Thanks,
Wei

My AutoCad 2018 for Mac is having a major mouse delay in drafting space. I need object snaps on to trace over a PDF in background. I've removed and reinstalled AutoCad 2018, restarted my computer a number of times, restarted/ reset setting on the Mac about mouse controls. Dynamic UCS is off. Updates for AutoCad for Mac 2018 have been installed. Computer restarted again. Nothing is working.

Do you have any recommendations for what else might be causing this?   Thank you so much!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Val,

If you have this problem only when you are trying to trace PDF attached as underlay and PDF contains vector data, why not simply import PDF to AutoCAD? After importing you can edit drawing as if it was created in AutoCAD.
PDFIMPORT (Command)

If PDF doesn't have vector data in it, you will not be able to use object snap, so you can convert PDF to raster image, attach it instead of PDF and trace over it. Raster image underlays do not slow down AutoCAD like PDF underlays do.

Thank you for responding so quickly!

It is happening anytime I draw anything in AutoCad, not simply when I've imported a PDF in AutoCad.
