I EDITED THE DEFAULT SCALES LIST BUT AUTOCAD WON'T SAVE THE CHANGES

Hello,

I'm using the AutoCAD 2018 with the latest updates.  When a go into the preferences and edit the default scales list, my changes are not saved and it simply defaults back to the out-of-the-box scale list.

Any ideas if I"m dong something wrong, or is this a bug?

Thanks.

-Bret

Hi Bret,

When you edit scale list in AutoCAD Preferences you edit default scales for non-templates files:2019-02-06_21-25-30.png

aka - the default list of scales stored in the "registry" (plist file on Mac).

Scale list is stored in each drawing separately, so if yo want to have your own default scale list in each drawing you create, you need to edit scale list in the Template drawing you are using to create new drawings. You use SCALELISTEDIT command for this.

Open Template, edit scale list in it, save template - now all scales you need will be at hand in the new drawing.

You can also edit the default scale list in AutoCAD Preferences, then you will be able to reset scales in all your existing drawings:

- edit default scale list in AutoCAD Preferences (add or remove scales)

- open existing drawing, call SCALELISTEDIT command

- use "gear" button to select "Reset" option:

- select which scale list(s) you want to reset:2019-02-06_21-37-10.png

- now you have all your scales in the current drawing

HTH

This is what is happening for me too with the new Autocad 2020 just released. I already have a template file with all my scales listed but I also want to edit the stock standard scale list that comes with Autocad so that whenever I want to reset the scales I can reset with my own scale list. This is helpful when a third party dwg comes in and the scales are not what I want. Resetting the scale list tidies everything up immediately. The issue is that after you edit the preferences or options scale list (for non template files) it does not save the results. This is highly frustrating after entering so many scales. It did not do this in Autocad 2019. ISSUE:  AutoCAD does not save the edited scale list.

Hi Doug,

Looks like you are using AutoCAD for Windows, because there is no 2020 version of AutoCAD for Mac.
Anyway, I tested the issue with default scale list and was able to reproduce it in AC 2020 for Windows - that is a bug.
BTW in AC 2018 for Win this bug is not reproducible on my side.

Hi

Yes I use Autocad for windows. (I didn't mention I used mac.) Bug only occurs in Acad 2020 not 2019 version. (My previous version). Are you from Autodesk and can instigate a hotfix for this annoyance?

But you posted in AutoCAD for Mac Forum

No, I'm ordinary AutoCAD user, just like you. At the same time I know that developers are aware of this problem now.
