HELP! Objects throughout drawing are duplicated and moved over?

Hi there,

I'm currently working on a large file which seems to have some glitches. I'll work on one section of the drawing then scroll out and move to another section of the drawing. When I go back to the first section, some of my objects (ie. notes, call outs, tags) are duplicated and moved over (typically to the left if that matters). I have no idea why this is happening. It's not every note, just very sporadic. And its not just with the one section of the drawing. It jumps throughout. I've attached an example with duplicates highlighted below.

I'm ready to throw my laptop in the garbage and quit... But unfortunately I have a deadline.

Please help!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,
Maybe you copied these objects accidentally?
Are you working in Model or in Layout?
Can you select these duplicates like other objects?

Please specify also AutoCAD version, macOS version and Mac model you have.

Hi Maxim,

I have not copied these objects. As I said, they are very random throughout the drawing and are moved over perfectly to the left. The rest of the workspace is located to the right & down. If I had copied them then scrolled, they would be moved at a strange angle I think.

I'm working in Model space as usual.

I can select & delete and treat these objects like any other.

I'm working on AutoCAD 2018, macOS MOjave Version 10.14.6 (18G1012), MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)

I've never had any trouble with any other file in my 5 years of using CAD. Multiple people have worked on this file over the past few months though so I'm wondering if this is causing a problem? Of course we always Save-As with the current date though.

Could be.
Have you tried to run AUDIT command?
Can you share this problem drawing (or part of it) with duplicated objects here?

2018 is not new: so is the problem limited to this one file, or was there a system change recently?
Or are the duplicates already there, you have two or more copies in place for everything?

If all else fails... Turn off PICKFIRST variable and see if your sudden off-screen duplication problem stops.

Hi Maxim,

I haven't run AUDIT command. I'm unfamiliar with it. What does it do?

I'll have to modify the file quite a bit to be able to submit it publicly. May take some time.

Hi Pendean,

The problem is limited to this file. I have another file which we've copied parts of the original (problem) file from and this second file has no problems.

I don't believe there are duplicates. If I select the objects individually, and move them over, only one object moves.

I'm unfamiliar with the PICKFIRST command. What would this do? Should it always be turned off and / or would there be any interference with the rest of the drawing should I keep it turned off?

Make a copy of the original problem file, erase most part of it (excluding area with duplicates) and attach result here. You can also send your file to my mail: mkanaev@yandex.ru

About PICKFIRST system variable:

The default is 1, which means that if you have some objects selected prior to issuing editing command, a command will be executed with these objects. So if you accidentally select something before you pan to another part of the drawing and use MOVE command, these selected objects will be moved even if they are not visible on screen.

Hi Maxim,

I have emailed over a small portion of the file (with client's info removed).

Thanks in advance for reviewing.

Hi Sumiko,

I received your drawing, ran AUDIT command and AutoCAD have found 297 errors:
Total errors found 297 fixed 297
Erased 0 objects
Most of them related to invalid layer structure. Have you used LAYMRG command in your drawing?

I'm asking because such errors usually appear after incorrect LAYMGR command actions on Mac.

In my opinion there is nothing suspicious in the file except these errors...

One of the assumptions I have is that duplicated texts could be included in groups of objects, then when copying other objects from such a group (with group selection turned on) the texts were also copied.
