Help needed for problem with xref not refreshing

Can anyone help with a problem that I am having with xref refreshing?  The problem has to do with when the original xref file for the main plan is changed, it does not reload while the window is open and there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark that appears.  The only way to see the original xref file in the plan is to close the window and reopen in.  Normally it changes immediately when you go to the other window, but new issue has been happening more often.  Can anyone help with this problem?  I have included a screen video.  Thanks for the help!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Rob,
What macOS do you have on your Mac?
Where are the drawings you use stored? On local or on external drive?

Hi Maxim,

My macOS is Mojave 10.14 and the drawings are stored locally on my desktop, no external hard drive.  The problem is still happening even when I restart the applications and system.  Not sure what the problem is.

Have you installed all updates for AutoCAD LT 2017 for Mac?
Including this one:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-lt-for-mac/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autocad-l...

I don't have AC 2017 on my Mac, because it is not compatible with my current macOS. So I cannot test the issue on my side.
Do you have this problem in all similar situations? Or just in this case?

I installed this update, but it looks like the same issue is occurring.  But, it only seems to happen with xrefs.  In the Reference Manager box, it continues to show a yellow triangle with an exclamation point and, in the description underneath, it says that the status "needs reloading."  I have tried reloading both the original and the new xref drawing and neither corrects the problem.  I have also tried PURGE, AUDIT, VISRETAIN....  Not sure where to go from here.

What DWG format are using for saving your drawings?
What if you change "Full path" to "Relative" in "Attach External Reference" window when you attach Xref?

I'm saving drawings using the most recent option possible:  "AutoCAD LT 2013/AutoCAD 2013 Drawing (*.dwg)".

I tried changing the Path using all three options:  Full, Relative and No Path.  None of the three options changed anything as every time the original reference file was changed, the yellow triangle with the red exclamation point appeared on the page.  At this point, I am having to delete the xref in the Reference Manager window and then reattach the reference on the page.

I have found old backup of Mojave and installed AutoCAD LT 2017 on it, tested your problem and cannot reproduce the issue you have.
So if you have this problem with any Xrefs, you can try to Reset AutoCAD.
Another option to try is to create new user account on your Mac, login to it, launch AutoCAD and test the problem with Xrefs.

The Mojave version that is running right now is 10.14.  I guess it could be a problem with the software, not sure.  I could always put everything back at default or deinstall and reinstall the software entirely, but I don't think that would solve the problem.  The xref command worked the very first time I used it, but then as I started to change things on the original block, the xref stopped updating and continued to indicate an error.  This is all based on using the external reference in the Mastering AutoCAD for Mac book, page. 231.  I guess I could alway try running through that exercise again?  I don't know...

Is it initial version of Mojave form September 24, 2018? I'm asking, because macOS gets updates and the latest Mojave version has version 10.14.6
Can you post screenshot of "About This Mac" window?

Can you also share here the drawings you are using as external reference - unitxref.dwg and master drawing - planxref.dwg?

Q: LT2017 is 4+years old now: is this your first time using XREFs, or is this a new LT2017 installation, or is this issue limited to this one XREF (or one top file) but it works fine in ALL other files and ALL other XREF scenarios?

Where do you store your files for this exercise (Chapter7 folder)?

Watching your original video, nothing unusual jumped out at me from your process of including an XREF: it appears your top file may be an issue here unless you can prove otherwise with your own created files and your own created XREFs not stored in a folder called CHAPTER7.

TIA
