Having an issue with AutoCad 2023 for Mac

When I try and print a paper space layout to a file The dialog box appears to be behind all windows and can only be visible if I go to change my desktop tab and go right back and it appears and works. The same issue is with changing scale in paper space and also material selection in 3D model space. Very annoying so how can I fix this? I can't show a picture of this as it is invisible.

Trying to see if this screen shot helps. If you look between the windows you will see "File format" with a dialog box that says PDF but the rest showing the file system is missing.

Hi @rundoverme ,

This is a knowing bug.

For me, using Mission Control helps bring the "Browse to plot file" window back - use Mission Control and pick somewhere on AutoCAD window.

The problem fixed itself after re-starting twice but now have several other issues. The program is very slow even though it appears to be using all 6 cores. The turn Ortho off temporarily, hold down the Shift key DOES NOT WORK, which this one is really annoying. Locks up allot for doing things like a simple trim command. Very frustrating.

Hi @rundoverme ,

>>>>>The program is very slow even though it appears to be using all 6 cores.

Do you have this issue in all of your drawings? How complex are your drawings?

What Visual style do you use in your drawings?

If it is other then "2D Wireframe", try to set it to "2D Wireframe".

Do you use Parametric Constraints in your drawings?

If yes - try to remove them all.

Are there any blocks on the "Recent blocks" tab of the Blocks Palette?

If yes, try to remove them with "Clear all" from right-click context menu inside "Recent blocks" tab.

>>>>> The turn Ortho off temporarily, hold down the Shift key DOES NOT WORK

Did you have this problem from the very beginning?

If this appeared suddenly - you can try to Reset AutoCAD.

All drawing have the same problems. 90* of my drawings are in 2D wireframe with no parametric constraints and no recent blocks. I restarted my computer twice yesterday because AutoCad just would not execute a trim command and would just beach ball me for 20 min. I put the machine to sleep at the end of the day and this morning AutoCad works 10X better but still slower than it should. Moving and zooming is not smooth and the annoying Ortho is driving me crazy. Also snapping to a point half the time is impossible. Almost like a (-) magnet the curser jumps over the point and I can't ever hover over it.

Hi @rundoverme ,

Can you provide your Mac specs?

What macOS do you have on your Mac?

Mac IOS Monterey 121.3.1

iMac 5K Retina 27"

3.7GHz 6 core intel core i5

40GB 2667 MHz DDR4

Radeon pro 580X 8GB using Metal for Cad

I put the Mac to sleep at night and in the morning it runs much faster than at the end of the day.  Another issue is when I zoom in to select an object to copy and then zoom out so I can past it somewhere else the zoom will only partly zoom out and not enough to work so I have to paste it and then move the object where I want it.

Looks like you zoom too deep into the drawing area. AutoCAD has to regenerate drawing when you zoom out at some point, that is why you cannot continue with COPY command - AutoCAD needs to REGEN, but it can't because COPY command is active.

If you need to copy something in such situation, you can temporary create two viewports: one for "deep" area, another with area where you want to copy the object. Switching viewports doesn't require regeneration during COPY command.

Another way - use clipboard  - COPYBASE and PASTE commands.

Strange thing AutoCad appear to be fixing itself. Yesterday it was fast all day with no issues except for the annoying Ortho issue. Zoom copy past trim, all are working fine. Even the snap to a corner is working, although it still will miss it sometimes like it has been since 2018. Is there anyway to make the snap stronger to make it more accurate?

You can try to play with the settings of MOUSEMOVEELAPSEDTHRESHOLD System variable.

The default value for it is 25, you can increase it to 40 or more to have better OSNAP performance.

About the ORTHO issue: do you have any software keyboard manager installed on your Mac?

Changed the settings of MOUSEMOVEELAPSEDTHRESHOLD to 50 and it seems to work better thanks. I have no keyboard manager installed and don't know anything about it either so can you explain.

I was referring to an application that intercepts keyboard shortcuts or a long press of a certain key and performs some action

I realized what that was after I posted and re-assigned a button on my MX master mouse so for now this is going to work and hope a fix will come soon. When I get into a drawing I don't think about what Keys I press I just do it so its reflex and I have been stumbling every time pressing shift and nothing happens.

Solution:
Verify the following solutions:

Uninstall and reinstall the Autodesk Licensing Service
Uninstall. See How to uninstall Autodesk Desktop Licensing Service.
Reinstall. See Autodesk Licensing Service download.
Reboot your Mac.
Start the software installation again.

Run the fixaccount script
Download the attached file fixaccount.zip.
Double-click it to extract the file fixaccount.sh.
Open Terminal (in Finder > Go > Utilities > Terminal)
Type:
sudo sh
Drag and drop the file fixaccount.sh into the Terminal window, the command will complete similar to:
sudo sh /Users/<username>/Downloads/fixaccount.sh
Press ENTER. You will be prompted for a password. Type your Mac password (no symbols are shown as you type, this is normal). Type it and press ENTER.
Run again the AutoCAD / AutoCAD LT for Mac install file.

Perform a Clean Clean Uninstall.
Follow the steps in the article How to perform a clean uninstall of Autodesk programs on a Mac.
Reboot the system.
Reinstall AutoCAD / AutoCAD LT for Mac.

This may help you,

Rachel Gomez
